My uncles accident was probably 40 years ago I wasn’t even born. But those aren’t his kids names though. JDP has had some bad luck with grain bin accidents

There are probably less than 50 people on this entire site that have experienced sustained hurricane winds. Of those, I’d be surprised if more than 10 would say they’d do it again
. I’ve been in more than a few.

When I was about 16 or so two of my buddies and I rode out a small hurricane at East Timbalier Island. We had gone to tow in the houseboat using a shrimp boat but Terrebonne Bay was too rough to cross coming in. (Actually not tow,we were rigged up to “hip” the barge. Gives you a lot more control.)

We dropped the spuds and tied off to some pilings in Canal 21 and stayed on the island. The water covered the island. Top winds on the gauge were in the 90’s.

There was a survey stake on the bank that a raccoon climbed on as the water came up. He held on all night. The next day he climbed down and went about his business.

We stayed out a couple of days after the storm and slaughtered the fish. By hook and line and net. The shrimp were plentiful but we caught several hundred flounders in the trawl also.

Whatever the hell that place is called. West of Lake Chuck. They had severe damage from something, and they said it was the storm. I mean I guess it could have just been a shithole already, but we were over there doing “storm rehab.” And, given the proximity to LC and the fact that there were homes and businesses fully destroyed, it certainly seemed like hurricane damage.

Geez man, you just keep digging. Sure you want to die on this hill?

I’ll happily let it go. Seriously. I just stand by it for the most part. Riding out a hurricane and riding out hurricane force winds are two different things entirely. That’s my point.

This is correct. Buoy in the lake south of LC lost communication after a reading at 180

But....but....but slackester said....

His premise about Laura is way off.

I do agree people are stupid and under estimate how strong these storms are.

Listen they don't give trophies for staying, period. There is not a single fricking thing you can do or accomplish by staying and you are risking a shite ton.

For Laura, I was back in LC from Dallas by 1pm. Most people that stayed couldn't get onto any roads or out their house until 10 or 11.

So what I lost 2-4 hours max of clean up time by staying in dallas, while sleeping in AC and being 100% safe?

If you have the means and are in the path, leave. Period.

Was in the direct path for hurricane Rita. That's the only time I've been a hurricane force winds survivor

Not even close, and that is slacks main point

His number of 50 people may be too low, but his premise is right

99% of people in south la think they have rode out true hurricane sustained winds, of that 99% maybe 0.5% are correct

I agree with his premise and his warning to gtfo, but Laura was way way higher than what he claims.

Which just confirms the meth head status.
