Delta Airlines to begin using artificial intelligence algorithms to scrape your emails and more to determine the maximum amount you’re willing to spend on tickets, then adjust your price
Example: If you have a death in the family, they’ll know it’s urgent and the price will go up
‘Delta says it's "fully reengineering how we price" airfare - leaning into Al algorithms that set the maximum price you're willing to spend, based on surveillance technology. About 3% of Delta's domestic ticket prices are now determined by artificial intelligence - and Delta plans to raise that to 20% by the end of the year.’ - More Perfect Union
“Delta Airlines just announced on their earnings call that they're going to start using some of these algorithms to price some of their tickets.
And imagine a world in which you have a death in the family, you have to go home for a funeral. And they know that through scraping your email, that is, you know, announcing when the service is going to be. They know you're in a tight spot, and so you're going to be charged much more because of that.
There's so much data collected about individual people by data brokers, by this whole shadowy ecosystem that's just tracking you through your phone, through your browsing history.
— There is a serious worry that companies will be able to do this.”
Imagine how many other businesses are going to start doing the same thing

At least it’s almost football season.

Our connectivity is 100% being used against us.
I miss when the internet was the Wild West and nobody knew how to use all this data.

I posted about this a few months ago but it was not specific to airlines. Restaurants are already piloting this with the online menus so the steak you order at 7PM on a Saturday may be a different price than 5PM on a Tuesday. And it may even be a different price depending on who is/is not sitting at your table

how about they use AI to make sure my flights are on time

Then I will order steak on Tuesday.

It's almost like they are trying to make people hate and overthrow capitalism.

I hate the airline industry more everyday.

This makes me almost irrationally angry.
To know that are going to intentionally frick people who have to do things like attend funerals makes me see red.

so I wont fly Delta. Airlines are doing all they can to alienate the casual flyer. Maybe thats the plan. But at this point, I'd rather take my own car and be the master fo my own destiny. Especially if the airline feels like I "can" pay more. frick em. I'll drive.

I hate this type of "news"
Some unknown person is interviewing some other unknown person about a hypothetical use of AI and then some other unaccountable social media influencer account (FWIW I like Wall Street Apes fine) applies it to a snippet of actual news for effect
"AI could be used like this in the future - death of family member!"
*Delta has announced some use of AI for pricing*
Pseudo news becomes that Delta is going to crawl your email and jack prices when a family member dies

You don’t think a company, that has to enrich their shareholders, would do that?

I guess it's a good thing that I always search the cheaper airlines for comparison times, rates, nonstop destinations, etc., before finally booking any flight.

How is Delta going to get access to my email without me allowing it or agreeing to it?
Too many people give apps and websites crazy access to stuff simply because they don't read the T&C or are too lazy to click a button and turn it off.
