At least there’s a current Army pilot who can admit that their force is full of unqualified and under-experienced pilots

This is the military force as a whole, maybe the navy is doing well, but I doubt it.

They can't recruit or incentivize the soldiers to stay so across all forces they continue to push more with less. They want no one to specialize in one certain thing any longer to cover these significant gaps. Promotion isn't based on your job it comes down to what you do outside of your career field which can potentially show leadership traits but leads to people doing stupid unnecessary bullshite just to check boxes. Military books need to be cleaned up, more focus on the troops and ensuring our specialties are rock solid along with increased pay to allow people to stay rather than dipping for a better life and more pay in the civilian sector.

Seems like ATC would be one job the military could easily train people for?

Military, just like any job, has always been bitching about something. Not enough training out of war, but stretched too thin and too many sorties while at war. Who knows what the hell the damn answer is. Pilots have always complained about the amount of flights they get.

Jsit a reminder, this is what our military was when the adults were in charge…

quote:

FORT INDIANTOWN GAP, Pa. – On Nov. 10, 2003, Chief Warrant Officer 3 Larry Murphy and Chief Warrant Officer 3 Paul Barnes were piloting a CH-47 Chinook helicopter in northeastern Afghanistan when they received a call to assist U.S. Soldiers who were operating on the ground. The two pilots, members of the Pennsylvania National Guard’s Company G, 104th Aviation Regiment, responded to the location, a village on the side of a steep mountain. Soldiers from the Army’s 10th Mountain Division had detainees in custody that needed to be transported to Bagram Airfield. With no other landing zones available, Murphy landed the helicopter’s two rear wheels on the roof of a small house while keeping the front wheels hovering to allow the Soldiers to load the detainees into the back of the aircraft.

LINK

Now we have pilots that can’t even avoid colliding midair with a fully lit commercial airliner. But hey, at least we’re now a really diverse force.

There are pure ATC jobs and related to ATC jobs in the military.

I controlled all the airspace above a battle field and also set up remote airfields and then called planes into that field.

All while being shot at.

For the past 4 yrs all 3 of our military academies were focusing on making sure our cadets were educated about pronouns, not using normal gender titles. etc etc etc.

I believe him. It feels like there is a post once a month about a military plane or helicopter crashing

we all heard the ATC communications and they did fine

So you don’t think that when ATC called him that last time he should have given distance, direction, and altitude of the traffic? Or just tell him the traffic is on one mile final, or whatever it was?

There were several military aircraft crashes in the last year. All of them were during training flights. It seems like the military doesn’t give a frick about losing their own soldiers in crashes.

Whoever was in the pilot and co-pilot seat of that Blackhawk needs to be damned for eternity.

He asked if chopper had traffic in sight. They confirmed they had traffic in sight after that it’s all on chopper.

If they would have said looking for traffic and asked for distance, direction, or altitude, tower would have certainly gave it to them. They could have even asked for tower to vector them around traffic if they felt uncomfortable or unsure about where the traffic was and the tower would have assisted. But they didn’t, they confirmed they had traffic in sight.

Its insanity that the army was flying training missions there. Handsome Pete has already ended that shite.

The military has a budget of just over $1 Trillion. That's a lot of fricking money. And they can't properly train pilots? Is this a lack of man power problem?

Somewhat, yes.

However pilots are officers or warrants and they are generally tasked with additional duties. Although I hear in the guard and reserve you fly a lot more because you aren’t bogged down with Big Army/AF/Navy bullshite.

Atc has some blame here. Should’ve given traffic 10 o’clock and altitude. Should’ve told helicopter to turn at some point before collision. Should’ve been almost a mile separation.
Even if helicopter is at 200 ft and passes that close underneath airliner that controller is getting fired and it’s a big deal.

My pal that was Longbow qualified didn't have enough hours to fly dudes to rigs from S. LA. But I'm sure he recognizes pronouns.
