“Charlie Douglas & the Road Gang” in the early to mid ‘70s

Dave Nemo took over for him and had a much less rural accented voice.

“Whether you’re driving a big rig on some lonesome stretch of roadway or pushing barges up one our nation’s waterways....”

That was good stuff if you were up late.

I met Douglas one time at a ATA Convention outing onboard the Riverboat President.

Kinda scary in person. Justin Wilson was dere too.

Not scary in person. Nice guy.

Met Jerry Clower a couple of times too at those kinds of things. Nice as well.

WWL's signal is unique in that it reaches the entire middle part of the country, from Canada to Mexico. KWKH out of Shreveport has the same power, but throws its signal west. You can pick it up at night in New Mexico, but reception is sketchy in Cenla. I don't know about Ralph Emery. WLAC out of Nashville barely reaches this area.

Depending on the weather and wind, you can catch WWL in Tucson.

Deke was only decent when he wasn't talking sports, and talking sports is his job.

WWL is so omnipotent that they can reach over 35 states at night. That is insane how large of a swath of land they can cover. Impressive, to say the least.

On a road trip I caught them in Colorado. Crazy.

There mustn't be a sign at MCRD - Parris Island that says "You Must Be This High To Enter". Kristian is about 5'-2". How did he get in the fricking Marines?

For all you non radio wave nerds like me. AM radio is in a part of the radio spectrum that allows sky waves where the signal will bounce off the ground at night and be reflected into the ionosphere and back until the signal is too weak. Some stations will even put metal grids in the ground to increase the first bounce at the tower site. Also, AM sites are very dangerous as the tower is the antenna and there may be more than one for a particular pattern.

There is another reason why AM is so crappy at times. The FCC at a time allotted certain stations clear channel status where all other AM stations near the the clear channel station on the same frequency had to power down or reduce power at sunset or point their signal away from the clear channel.

WWL is mainly clear at night because there very few stations on 870 east of the Rockies at night. But now as Digital AM and RDS in AM signals increase in popularity, they have introduced sideband interference across the country adding to the noise in AM stations.

Deke was bad but Tommy Tucker is a waste of air time. My last eye exam had tougher questions than his interview with Mitch Landrieu.

Tucker isn't a total dick to his callers though. Also, he at least put Landrieu on the spot after the flood a few months back on the air when the mayor came on to blame everyone and everything else and he was just trying to get off of the air as soon as possible. Lanrieu was pissed.

What does a guy like Deke do upon being canned from a regional sports show?

Option #1: @dekebigchief tweets "Two Star Safety Ibrahim Moizoos has narrowed his Top 10 down to a Top 6. Pay $9.99 on my website to read it now before it is leaked for free on another Message Board. #PrepRecruitHustle"

Option #2: He goes on disability.

Option #3 (which I think he would be absolutely perfect at): He becomes a jaded table games dealer at a third-rate riverboat casino where he can still talk down to everyone.
