Well then, as a physician, you know...
I'm going to need you to electronically document those feelings, makes sure to click the boxes for our preferred subset of "measured" feelings in your documentation. You can then submit that documentation for consideration, which will of course be denied for incorrectly coding one of your feelings the first time. After correctly coding the applicable feeling, give us 3-4 weeks to let you know just what percentage of your feelings we will take into account in this matter. Any leftover feeling you have remaining at that point will just have to be absorbed internally b/c we don't feel like you should have those particular feelings.

NP Facebook group calling med students in white coats at the state capitol "white flu"... Now who is it that has no respect?

LA SB 187 NEEDS TO BE DEFEATED.
For all my friends and family in LA. Please pay attention to this political sidestepping of quality healthcare in your home state. The bill which proposes that Nurse Practicioners should be independently and autonomously practicing medicine is bad for you and your loved ones.
Currently, nurse practitioners, who recieve additional training and experience beyond the RN degree, are a valuable part of health care delivery in many states. Considered midlevel providers, they help fill in gaps in healthcare provider shortage areas, help lower the cost of care for large and growing practices when physician to patient ratios are strained, and typically excel at providing routine preventative services especially to women and children. In LA and most other states, they practice under the supervision of a licenced physician. Like most professionals, they do well when doing what they know how to do and faulter when outside of their training and experience.
NP's are not physicians though. They do not recieve the same intensive classroom education, arduous testing, hands on direct oversight clinical training, or years of closely monitored internship and residency apprenticeship. Nor is any of that training done in an environment as competitive or legally responsible as medical school or residency. They are simply not trained in an equivalent manner to physicians, not even close.
Certainly, there is a role and place for NP'S. That is NOT the independent practice of medicine. Simply put, knowing what you know is important but knowing what you don't know is more important when you are dealing with others health and life.

Does this now mean NPs can be sued? If so, LA attorneys are fixing to eat.
As a patient always ask who your healthcare "provider" is. Always ask credentials of who you are seeing. Big difference between a physician and a provider.

Just curious... Do you have any collaborative agreements in place with NPs?

Any news on how the physical therapists bill which allows direct access is going?

Why the hell are docs posting on tigerdroppings to defeat this bill?
Do you really think this is an effective forum to get your dire worries to the public across?

So why are you so against this? Not looking for the political answer "Because it endangers the welfare of the people" BS. Check the data from other states before you use that one. You do realize that this has been going on in states like New Mexico for 30 years? And this does nothing to increase current scope of practice. And something like 22 other states are currently using a similar method to deliver healthcare? But Louisiana is next to last in healthcare, but you refuse to look at what other states are doing as possible solutions?

Because they don't want anyone taking their market share? It isn't "fair" that someone who doesn't have their extensive training can take their patients.
That's pretty much what this boils down to. Anyone who doesn't have a bias can see that.

Lets start with priority legislation cutting higher education and healthcare. Making nurses doctors seems to follow LA's theme.

Clearly you did not read the thread. No NPs in my field. The legislature already passed irresponsible legislation regarding optometrists. This is about fighting the good fight to keep patients safe and away from harm

I will respectfully disagree. I said it before and I'll say it again. Grad school for nurses is ridiculously easy to get into. For every one good NP, you have five that needed three chances to pass their boards. You can become a DNP almost entirely online at schools like Southeastern, except for the hours dedicated to your project defense and practicum.

Sure, they'll probably have shite NPs out there, but there are also shite physicians out there.
