we get 1.5" of freezing rain You’ll have power outages worse than hurricanes. It will damage the power grid like a mofo. I know someone that lived in Tupelo in 94. He had 2” of freezing ran at his house. Didn’t get power back for 2 weeks.

That’s the truth. I’ll take a foot of snow VS that much freezing rain. That much ice accumulating on the trees in SE Louisiana would damn near destroy the power grid in my neck of the woods. I worked the 2009 Ice Storm in Kentucky with a tree company and I don’t want anything to do with that type of mess down here.

Six INCHES of snow is legitimate blizzard territory for New Orleans

That would be a once in a century event

It’s over 7” for Baton Rouge and over 6” for New Orleans according to the Kuchera model, which accounts for changes in temperature throughout the atmosphere (warm noses) during the precipitation. It also considers changes in humidity. According to Google, the Kuchera model for snowfall predictions is more accurate than the typical 10:1 ratio.

Way too much snow. Couple inches seems fine but I don't want to deal with 6-12 inches with widespread power outages.

I don't really care if it snows more concerned about potential ice and losing power. 6 inches around here is more than enough to slap with power outages.

Do you not have a generator? Living in south Louisiana without a generator is not smart. Let the kids have a blast and create lifelong memories. You can rough it for a few days.

Snow is less likely to lead to power outages.

Pray for snow. All snow. Nothing but snow. The more accumulated snow the better.

That’s what I’m hoping for. The last time it really snowed in the Franklinton area was December 2017, but my son was too young to enjoy it back then.

...WINTER STORM WATCH IN EFFECT FROM LATE MONDAY NIGHT THROUGH TUESDAY EVENING... * WHAT...Heavy snowfall possible over the northern half of the area and heavy mixed precipitation possible over the southern half of the area. Total snow accumulations between 4 and 8 inches along and north of the Interstate 10/12 corridor and 2 to 6 inches south of this line. Ice accumulations less than 1/4 inch north and around a 1/4 inch south possible. * WHERE...Portions of southeast Louisiana and southern Mississippi. * WHEN...From late Monday night through Tuesday evening. * IMPACTS...Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and hazardous. Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the Tuesday morning and evening commutes. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Hazardous driving conditions may last into or through Wednesday as well since all of the wintry precipitation that falls Tuesday may not melt through the day Wednesday. If this begins to look likely, winter weather headlines could be extended into or through Wednesday. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Monitor the latest forecasts for updates on this situation. Persons should consider delaying all travel. If travel is absolutely necessary, drive with extreme caution. Consider taking a winter storm kit along with you, including such items as booster cables, flashlight, blankets and extra clothing. Also take water, a first aid kit, and anything else that would help you survive in case you become stranded.

It could snow 6 ft and not technically be a blizzard.
Excessive winds are needed for that kind of terminology.

Lows for Tuesday are trending down also. I’m showing 17 for my area in NW Calcasieu. Taking into account snowfall amounts. Yesterday morning was showing 25. Forecast now is 90% chance of snow with accumulations of 5 inches.

Well some of us don’t have the financial luxury of spending $10,000 on something that may get used once every 2 or 3 years. Don’t you know how expensive LSU season tickets are for baseball and football lol…#priorities

It’s hard to believe the 6z ICON snow total. It’s showing a deeping low pressure system which results in higher precipitation totals just like the other 3 models but much the GFS/Canadian/EURO have 3x the amounts of accumulation

TWC app is showing 5-8” in Lafayette area now. Looking forward to the kids getting to build an actual snowman instead of a ice man lol

I was going through my old photos and found this one from the last time we got a wintry mix (Feb 15 ‘21). As of now it won’t get as cold, but we’re not that far off.

Many of us are wise enough to know you don’t need a whole house generator, either. Portable ones work almost as good and cost $1,000 or less.
