You can get cheap ground meat at fresh market on tuesdays.
You can also talk to the butcher at your local grocery store and he will grind whole cuts.
People keep complaining about meat prices but are apparently buying bottom of the barrel tubed ground beef.
As a rule, if I'm having whole cuts ground, I tip the butcher five bucks.
Since most roasts are under $3 per lb, and I never buy less than 5lbs, you generally save 10-12$ on the cost of the meat. Even with the tip you're well ahead.

I heard that if you goto Albertson's every night 10 mins before the butcher closes, that you can get $0.99/lb ground beef that they are about to toss because it's at the due date. But depends on the store's cycle.

Nowhere did I say that. The cheapest option is by the lb at fresh market.
The best option is whole cuts ground to your liking.

2.99 Tuesday is well known on the FDB. One of the best reasons to visit Fresh Market
Granted the ground beef is 80/20, and can be found at Rouses cheaper. Although it may not be hormone free at Rouses.

The benefit of freshmarket is that they will wrap lbs individually if you ask.
They can't do a chili grind for shite though

I would feel awkward tipping the butcher. "Hey man, you're poor, here's some money for doing your job"

I was buying beer at a gas station yesterday at 4:30 and they gave me all the dried chicken under the heat lamp for free because they were about to throw it out.
I feel like I won the lottery.

Ziplocks aren't that expensive. Especially when you can save almost a dollar sometimes shopping elsewhere.
There are other great deals at Fresh Market during the week.

quote:Don't know if that's true, but they throw away meat that's over its expiration date. My wife and I were at Albertsons one evening in the meat section. I pulled out this beautiful big leg of lamb that had expired the previous day. I went talk to the butcher about it to see if he would discount it because I was going to buy it. He then tells me that not only can he not mark it down, but he can't even sell it to me and has to throw it away. I laughed and said, "Yeah right. You're taking it home with you huh?" He said he puts them in a fridge and the manager watches him throw them in the dumpster. They can't even give it to the homeless shelter.

I wonder if there could be money in shopping at a variety of stores for a fee. Not a tegular grocery buying service, but one that gives a shite about quality.
Apples from callandros.
Meat and general stuff from butcher boy.
Produce and ethnic from la morenita.
Chicken breast and snacks from fresh market.
Fish from Tony's.
Bread, specialty sausage, and desserts from Bourque's.
Andouille from bergerons.
Pity its 90ish miles to link em all together.

Buy a few calves, raise them, take them to a processing plant when your ready and you have several hundred pounds of burger, sausage, steak, roast, etc.......
I know several people who do this and I've been thinking about it if my dad and me can ever get our fences fixed and pastures cleared again after 20 something years of no cattle/horses.

You suck at shopping. This is the worst list.

Most are making over 45k a year. Seriously. Cutters do fairly well conaidering their education level. Throw in 100 bucks a week untaxed and that really ain't too shabby for working at a grocery store.
