Dear Facebook re: sleep paralysis

Had my first bout of sleep paralysis this morning. I was conscious before my alarm went off and couldn't move anything no matter how hard I tried. My alarm went off and I basically jumped out of bed. I didn't see the "old hag" but it was a feeling of helplessness I've never felt before. For people who have experienced it, is it something that will happen again?

my brother had this, saw a dr. and was diagnosed with HIV.

Its called a dream. If your alarm "startled" you to move, then you were having a dream but not actually awake. Sorry that the nightmares scared you, little one. Monsters aren't real.

I hear the ghey runs in families. Have you been tested?

Wasn't a dream. I often wake up before my alarm. I was fully conscious.

I get it occassionally. It is always terrifying. Sometimes you see shadowy figures watching you in your bed, but you cannot move or scream. Sometimes it’s little grey and they vanish and suddenly you can move again.

yes, and did not enjoy one minute.

Happens to me occasionally. A few times a year. It really sucks.

You should probably read up a little more on sleep paralysis. shite sucks

I’ll get it 3 or 4 nights in a row then not again for months. It does suck.

The only cure for it is ambien

I looked into it a bit today, I really don't look forward to it happening again. My dad has had to have sleep studies done, so I'm wondering if it's just the beginning.

Yeah, mine won't be consecutive nights. But it might happen 2 or 3 times in a week or so span. Then no problems for a while.

I've had it several times throughout the past 10 years or so.
Scared the shite out of me at first, but now I just let it run its course without freaking out.

Stop sleeping on your back. It has to do with the position of your head.
I normally sleep on my right side. When I sleep on my back, those are the only times paralysis happens to me.
However, when I do this, I routinely have a sensation of weightlessness as if I am levitating, so sometimes I purposely will sleep on my back...or sleep on my side with my head turned up towards the ceiling, for an on-demand amazing weightless/hovering feeling, but when I wake up, I have to deal with the temporary paralysis. It's worth the trade-off, imo.

I had it happen to me about ten times in a one month span back in a stressful time in college. It was awful. Eventually I was able to figure it out and be able to wake myself up without freaking out. Good luck.

I normally sleep on my left side, but I noticed I was on my back when I had it. Tried to lift my head off the pillow and nothing happened. Tried to move my arms, and nothing. Felt like it was minutes, but it was probably only 30 seconds or so.
