Dealing with older co-worker. How do you discuss retirement?

Do you know where he lives by chance?

I just need to find out if this guy plans on leaving at any point. I don’t know how else to handle this besides straight up having my wife to ask him when he plans to leave.
Make sure she dresses nice for the deposition.

She isn’t management or HR. I don’t feel this is out of bounds but might upset him I guess. Older people ...but this guy should be out the workforce at this point. He has more than enough money.
My company didn't give choices. They either early retired us or laid off old baws. But HR has to get the management to write crappy performance evaluations to justify it. So if managers can't drop the hammer, he may stay there awhile.

Should be fairly easy to make it look like an accident at that age...

Upper management needs to tell the guy what's up.

Let me get this straight. Your wife left a full time job to work part time at a place because someone told her she would get a job if or when the person retires? Either the management at the new job are idiots, your wife pulled a fast one on you to snag a part time gig or else all y’all are dumb. That dude ain’t leaving until he is good and ready. Management certainly isn’t going to make him leave and your wife pushing him to leave will get her fired with the quickness. What a fricked up post if this is true.

She should tell her manager that she came on with the understanding that she would be FT sooner rather than later. She needs to see a plan to make that happen. If they don’t provide one or don’t show progress toward that end it isn’t a company worth working for. Leave the old dude out of it. If she’s a valuable employee they can find a way for her to be FT.

The old guy across from me starting talking about retirement a month after I started. That was 3 years ago. He doesn’t do shite, literally plays solitaire on the computer half of the day. He started the company 30 years ago, then sold it off about 5 years ago. Guess he figures he’ll keep showing up and playing cards as long as no one says anything to him

He's 71
Your wife is a pretty young thing.
Encourage her to sleep with him every single day.
He's not going to be able to keep up
Heart attack within 2 months.
Problem solved.
You're welcome.

Maybe he does know she was brought into replace him and it pissed him off.
He maybe waiting for someone to try and push him out the door so he can file an age discrimination lawsuit against the company.
Would be a nice payday before he heads off to retirement.

My wife took a job because they are looking to replace an older employee. The guy is 71. It was communicated to her he would be retiring soon after. She left a full time job because it’s a pretty good gig if you have the full time job.

I hope that doesn’t happen to someone I care for.
Sounds shitty even if it’s the right decision.
Your wife should try to come on to the old geezer????
Heart attack/problem solved.
ETA: Oh nonononono, we think alike.
