That area was going down long before Katrina. Katrina just fast forwarded the process.

The late 80's are when the duplex's facing south harrells ferry road at that corner began to drop quick.

Not sure when the old Circle K/Thug Hang/Beer & Cigarettes/Check Cashing and laundry mat when to total shite.

The area where this shooting was is directly around the corner and is a huge embarrassment to the area. I can’t believe it’s allowed to look like it does.

The whole area is an huge embarrassment all the way down and past the interstate not just that little corner.

Short answer-Katrina! They moved a shite ton of hood rats there and took over St Jean apartments and turned it from a mid-high end complex to section 8 shite!

St. Jean Apartments were never mid-high end . They were already a shithole by the late 90s.

I think that they were Section 8 when they were being built. If I am remembering right.

Has anyone mentioned that one of the dearly departed was involved in another shooting in March?

the builder is the same group that built the section 8 complex on Siegen and the owner of Jays donuts knew this. The guy finally bent and lied enough to get his apartments pushed thru. Took one and a half years for it to go completely section 8 and nobody could do a damn thing about it.

Wrong, sir.

That place was around in the late 90's and was a section 8 from the get.

I don't think it is any longer like supermoto mentioned. It was completely gutted and rebranded after the flood.

This shooting happened about a half mile away from the former St Jean complex though. I'm sure a lot of these are Section 8 though.

There actually has been some pretty significant commercial development on that stretch of Oneal since they made it 4 lanes.

There’s a pretty big Corporate office structure going up across from the Sonic. I think it’s for a bank’s corporate facilities.

Developers like this need to have some extracurricular law visited upon them.

Jays donuts guy knew his shite. Good for him packing up and leaving early. Most people don’t know about those apartments on Siegen. But they’re a really bad place to be

Is it just a coincidence that this happens not long after the Jays Donuts on Sherwood goes up for sale?

They are pretty much all working class hispanics. The area around Orleans Dr on Perkins is predominantly black

Ahh nvm, I'm thinking of a different group of apartments

You know those are quality apartments by the number of people walking back and forth to Siegen.

I was gonna drive back there and check them out one day but I was scared to do it with the kids in the car.
