Short answer-Katrina! They moved a shite ton of hood rats there and took over St Jean apartments and turned it from a mid-high end complex to section 8 shite!

St. Jean apartments

Looks nice, clean, and safe to me! What I really like about the apartment complex is the security it offers like nightly swat teams, undercover police officers, K-9 dogs, and unsupervised children who keep a close watch over everything. You couldn't ask for a nicer place to live!

The least used swimming pool in Baton Rouge. Notice the dead bodies who drowned trying to swim across it at the bottom of the pool.

That entire complex flooded. It’s been totally refurbished. I’m told there is still a section 8 component though, so no telling how long they’ll remain nice.

The area where this shooting was is directly around the corner and is a huge embarrassment to the area. I can’t believe it’s allowed to look like it does.

A lot of those townhouses used to be owned by different people/companies and i'd imagine that's still the case. They couldn't even get together to fix the driveways which have like 2 foot deep potholes in places. You could get stuck in one in a Corolla

That area was going down long before Katrina. Katrina just fast forwarded the process.

Why anyone would bother fixing up a section 8 place is beyond me. With work over the years I see what happens and it is beyond disturbing. When you give people things for free they don’t appreciate them whatsoever.

I lived back there around 2002 for a little while. Right up front across from what was the Circle K.

It wasn't great but I don't remember a lot of crime. It was definitely on the way downhill though. Moved out in 2003 I think.

The flood fixed that. St Jean has been rebuilt/rebranded and is now called The District of White Oak with just the minimum Sec 8 units.

As soon as St. Jean apartments were built and attracted those types of people to the area, the entire surrounding area went section 8.

That is why people freak out when apartments come up. They all end up turning to crap. Except El Cid.
