Gray death is heroin with both fentanyl and carfentanil. It was in Louisiana and a guy died from using it 2 years ago.

As a former snorter of heroin aka dog food, AMA.

And to those saying this story is sensationalized, they're correct.

Right. But, if this "gray death" is what is on the streets, how is a fledgling doper able to even build a tolerance?

Good question, I think much of that is sensationalism mixed with a few facts. The biggest problem is there is no actual recipe for what "gray death" is.

https://www.drugs.com/illicit/graydeath.html

quote:

Gray death is an illicit opioid combination of powerful and dangerous drugs that have led to several fatal overdoses in the U.S. in 2017. The designer, synthetic drug is said to be many more times potent than heroin. Overdoses have been reported in Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Indiana, Pennsylvania, and Ohio.

So here is the basic issue

quote:

Gray death is extremely dangerous, even in a very small dose. A user typically will not know what is contained in the mix when they use it, and the product is often fatal.

A few other tidbits

quote:

As reported by the Georgia Bureau of Investigations (GBI) crime labs, roughly 50 cases containing the synthetic opioid U-47700 and furanyl fentanyl have been identified, although many more probably exist. In addition, some of the confiscated drugs contained 3 or 4 extra opioids.

quote:

Carfentanil, a large animal tranquilizer often used to anesthetize elephants, has been found in the product. If carfentanil is mixed in the product, it could add to the rapidly lethal effect. Carfentanil is 100 times more potent than fentanyl and 10,000 times more potent than morphine.

As for your second question.

quote:

Narcan saving them from initial overdoses helps them build a tolerance?

Here is what you'll see.

quote:

If the drugs contained within the gray death are of opiate origin, naloxone may be an effective antidote; however, multiple doses of naloxone (Narcan) will probably be required. As one health expert physician has noted, reversal of the effects could take up to 5 to 10 naloxone doses, which most people do not have on hand.

Naloxone will not have an effect on other drugs in the mixture, such as benzodiazepines, barbiturates, or other non-opiate drugs.

I guess they figured it needed a scary sounding name

With weed becoming more and more normal, they have to make sure people still think we need the tanks driving down main street to fight the war on drugs.

Are these the same officials who post warnings on Facebook about exploding oil diffusers and child predators on every corner?

mean if it can kill normal person by touching it, big time dopers have some sort of superpowers where it doesnt effect them like it does normal folk??

Two things: one, a junkie has a tolerance to powerful opioids since they inject it every day. Two, the picture above is what the dealer is getting and is raw dope. That chunk will be crushed and cut with baby laxatives or b12 etc so the junkie isnt buying raw dope like that.

this is so sensationalized. I had a problem with pills... not H. and dealing with that you are eventually gonna get some pressed pills. I had a high tolerance but not nearly as high as you'd think. I did fent once and it made me incredibly sick. Probably a very little amount of it. But it didn't kill me. and touching it will definitely not kill you

But the experience really freaked me out and got me on the path to sobriety(among other things: debt/depression/etc). Back in control of my life though!

to try the hard stuff. Heroin wasn't even in the discussion. 5 years ago, I made the rehab circuit for alcohol and heroin was the drug of choice for the younger crowd. Kids from fraternities, high end BR High School, trailer park crowd, you name it.

I’ve done some growing up since then but oxy and particularly Xanax weren’t hard to come by in 08-12 at LSU. Thankfully the former wasn’t really my thing but I saw several people get bad off. The Florida pill mills were a problem.

No one I knew openly admitted to doing H but it’s not surprising to see.

Cocaine is still everywhere you just don’t see people dying or getting that hooked on it since it’s a Friday thru 4am Sunday drug. Society excuses that kind of behavior as long as you show up Monday-Friday

Shooting up is how people overdose. It’s much harder to overdose on pills than most people think especially if you arent mixing substances. I was an Oxy addict for a long time and can easily take 90mg at once orally and that would be toxic to someone who doesn’t have a tolerance. It’s all about preparing your body for the strength of a drug overtime

I don’t shoot but again I can easily snort half a gram of heroine.

Florida pill mills running Roxie’s, Xanax, etc used to be a major issue before the DEA shut most of them down. Now people buy other people’s whole legit prescriptions because their over prescribed
