In-home sitter rates are similar to daycare rates, so I'm not sure why you think someone who has the option of one doesn't have the option of the other available to them?

In my experience, 10-14 dollars an hour.

eta: of course that's for irregular stays.

Something like an everyday arrangement would be much cheaper.

No. They're not even close. And if you do it legally, it brings in taxes that have to be paid. Minimum wage comes out to $320/week.

So between 9 and 10 hours thats 108+ per day.

So over 500 bucks a week...

Daycares cost nowhere near that.

40 hours a week is $400-560 per week. Most day cares around BR are $250 per week even for the youngest babies. Then it comes down as they get older.

FIFY. I'd be willing to bet that 80+% of families with two incomes and little ones in day care could make it work on one income. Babies NEED their mothers till at least age two. That's when their brains, emotions, capacity to love, sense of being loved, is all developing. If they aren't with mom, someone else is raising the child and becomes mommy to the child.

If you were to die today & come back to earth as a newborn baby tomorrow, would you rather be raised by your own mom or this fat POS? Nobody is going to take as good care of your child as you do, this is yet another tragic example of that fact.

I know some situations aren't so black and white, but most families with babies in day care just aren't willing to sell a car, drop the cable, skip the week in Florida, not eat out 4+ times a week to make staying at home for a couple of years an option.

When you're old and dying, you're not going to say, gee I wish I'd have worked at my shitty job more. You'll wish you'd spent more time with your kids.

That job can replace you in a few days, but no one should replace you to your baby.

So the point that you're making in this thread is that if the parents wouldn't have put their two month old into daycare this wouldn't have happened?

I'm not sure why you're continuing to push that point.

Brah, the daycare ACCEPTS their money when the baby is as young as 6 weeks old, obviously the parents have no other option but to leave their infant who is too young to lift his own head with strangers who have multiple other children to look after.

How about she can NEVER work at a day care for the rest of her life. No prison and not being able to work at a daycare for 5 years is a walk in the park for her fat butt......talk about getting off easy!

$10 an hour times fifty hours a week is $500

Besides the fact that this is the second most ridiculous thing I've read today, this is what happens when irrelevant opinions are posted out of context to the thread. An entire page discussing the cost of child care and people like this telling everyone with kids in daycare that the dozen people at the facility are now looked at as mommy to their kid.

First off, it should be very easy to find a sitter who will work 300 a week. Secondly, you're acting liek this would be a regular costs for months or years when in reality I'm talking about procuring more personalized care for an infant until it is definitely old enough for a daycare, so at the very most like 4.5 months and more realistically 2 months.

I will take that bet right here and now. No way.

And we just ignore single mothers? Alright, cool.

HAHAHAHA. Definitely not.

Yeah... at all times. Even when their older. But I'd be old, dying and still working if I got to take off for 2 years for every kid born.

You're right. Day care is a no no because only you should watch your child all day. Don't send them to school either. Home school. Nothing else makes sense.

So you want to pay them less than minimum wage... changing your mind on 10-14 per hour.

8 weeks at twice the price is still an extra $2000 that most families don't have especially when one income is lost.

People automatically think that putting someone in prison is the best way to handle everything. The worker didn't intentionally kill the child. It was an accident. Yes, she is negligent, but putting her in prison isn't going to bring the child back

I agree that accidents dont deserve jail time in most cases but what was the accident? I still do know what she admitting to doing. If the child fell and she did not immediately seek medical attention than she should be severely punished. If she shook the baby, that is not an accident and she should be severely punished. She accepted a plea out of fear of a trial?
My daughter around the same age fell off the bed and hit wood laminate floor when our three year old decided to run in the room and somersault on the bed. That was an accident and the baby sustained no visable injuries. We still rushed her to the ER like any responsible adult care give should.

No way you have kids. You have no idea the amount of money it takes to raise one... to pay for in home care... to pay for day care. An evening sitter costs at least $20/hour. And most people pay more. A weekly sitter (if illegally paid cash) will take $10/hour. And that's if you want a half decent one and not some random like the OP who's more likely to steal your shite than watch your kid. And going 4 or 5 months on just one income isn't possible for most people. We were lucky/smart. We didn't have kids until we were ready. we made sure we could handle one income for at least a year. Yet we are the exception.

I would rather send my daughter to daycare then pay an in-home sitter. She has learned valuable social skills and the fact that the workers are trained in CPR and first aid vs the at-home sitter, who may or may not have any training.
