re: Day 3 no alcohol - so far so good

I had no stop button. I had to change everything I reasonably could about my lifestyle 25 years ago, and it has been an amazing journey. I was in a bad way, so I went to a great place in Van Cleave Miss called “Homes Of Grace”. When I got out I had to stay away from Triggers. Certain places, people and hobbies had to be off limits for a good while. My whole circle of friends fixed itself over time. With new goals and clear thinking come a new challenge. Don’t get complacent and proud enough to neglect your recovery efforts. I made that mistake and relapsed after 8 years sober. I had found a way to JUSTIFY another drink and then realized my Stop Button was still broken. After all those years, 1 drink was still too many and a 1,000 is not enough. Only by the Grace of God did I recover my life again. Recovery works if you work it...
God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference. Amen

The people that are “truly close” will still be there. The others you will still like but not really hang out with. You can’t see it now, but you will. It’s absolutely perfect how it all works out if you just do the “next right thing in front of your face”

Good luck man. Will be a challenge but remember when you think your back healthy you are at your weakest moment. At that time either call someone have a list ready on the cons or do both to remind yourself of why you stopped.

I can't think of a single friend or family member who would criticize or ostracize me in any way for not drinking. I don't really tell much of anyone anyway. I don't want them feeling and acting strange around me in drinking situations.

I’m curious as well. It was/is a great post with lots of good stories and support. I’ve also been cutting it out completely and it’s different but love the way I feel and can see physical change in just a short time.
Sounds weird but some form of support board might not be a bad idea. Don’t know if that would cause liability of some some but probably in today’s day and age.I mean I know there are other sites for stuff like that but a lot of times people like to post here.

Remember where you came from and not wanting to go back. Been clean 6 years and I miss the taste of bourbon but never want to go back.

Apparently moderation is a foreign concept to you
See, here's where your ignorance of the subject shines through. This is about addiction. And in addiction there is no such thing as moderation.
And for the record, I am not an alcoholic but I choose not to drink alcohol anymore because it is poison. My life has been destroyed by an alcoholic.

Been a week for me without booze in a situation where I had every "reason" to turn to the bottle. I knew my father wouldn't have wanted me shite faced at his funeral so I didn't take a sip through it all after the initial shock of the first 24 hours

I have seen where you have still struggled. I am sad for you. But experience tells me I cannot do anything to make you stop. Only you can. But I do pray that you will make it someday.
I am sorry for your loss.

This month marks 20 years since alcohol has touched my lips! Life is awesome without it!

Just made 8 months last weekend. Went to my first AA meeting 14 years ago and thought it was terrible. Tried again 2 years ago and went to several different meetings and realized you need to find the right meetings for you.
Made 4 months and thought I was “fixed”. The next year spiraled into over a fifth of vodka every day from when I only drank beer before. AA has literally saved my life and the last 8 months have been hard at times but truly amazing. The only thing that changed was I was completely willing to do anything I was told by my sponsor, no matter how uncomfortable I thought it would make me. Life changing!
