My generation went through too many divorces so we are talking our kids into small inexpensive weddings.

Smaller and inexpensive is the way to go. Weddings are just crazy expensive.

I bought my dress from David's Bridal, but only paid a couple hundred and not thousands of dollars like some brides do. I swear you just say the word wedding and everything is marked up more than usual.

My daughter got married 7 years ago. I paid for everything she wanted. My sister did the reception as a wedding gift. I spent $275 total. It’s also amazing how well they are doing financially.

We didn’t have any money to get married. Her dad wanted to pay for it all so we did it as cheap as possible. She actually used David’s Bridal and her dress was the cheapest they had. I taught a class once and had people estimate the cost of a wedding to put something in perspective. This girl said $10k for a wedding dress like that was a steal. A girl from Africa was angry over it. Other cultures don’t even use diamonds in wedding rings. We act like there is no other option. It’s dumb.

My mom made my sister's dress and the reception was at home. I think I had the biggest outlay. I had to buy a new suit

There is a huge downturn in brick and mortar retail of all sectors and this isn't tied to marriages at all.

News flash: People shop on-line.

Tuxedo rental stores have been dying a slow death for over a decade. You can buy a new one online for not much more than they rent them for.

People aren’t falling for the sales pitch of your once in a lifetime thing. So many more options out there now. Previous generations didn’t have the flexibility of the internet and amazon.

Everything related to weddings is a huge scam.

The costs for a wedding is ridiculous these days.

Isn't David's Bridal where you go to get a dress without an insane price tag?

This^^

...and I might add the percentage Real Estate Agents get paid needs to have a change.

Some of these traditions and business models need to get whacked to reality.

On a side, yet related note, my neice just started being a Home Loan shark and claims that if she does 4 average deals a month she will make close to 6 figures. She does nothing but push paper and the company sells the loan off.

The funny part is that every time I see a David's Bridal sign I think of how a woman I know got her wedding stuff from them on credit, then filed bankruptcy and gave them the shaft.
