if you do it you basically ignore that there is a risk of infection and that professional groups of pediatricians advise against it in babies.

Just because someone pierces their daughter's ears doesn't mean they are ignoring there is a risk of infection. It isn't that hard to keep a new piercing clean.

Parents do things every single day that go again the AAP. You will to when you become a parent.

If I’m 100% wrong...then why does the American Academy of Pediatricians suggest waiting until the child is old enough to care for it themself?

Obviously at 5 I was not able to do this.

At 12....it didn’t get infected. I was able to clean it myself and know to not touch my ears unless my hands were clean.

Please post where I said it was neglect

You straight said it in the last thread about this, and in this one you said anyone that does this doesn't care about the well being of their child, ie neglect.

Sorry you are getting so upset by this

I'm not upset, personally, I couldn't care less when kids get their ear pierced. You're just an idiot with the most over dramatized takes on this topic.

How hard is it to poke a hole in an ear? Just burn it, dunk it in some vodka, and poke it through

She's not wrong.

Can someone explain the supposed upside here? Because I don't see one.

Surveys suggest 80%+ of adult women have their ears pierced. It's purely cosmetic, sure, but getting it done at a young age is preferable to doing it at 5 or 7 when you're much more active and dirty or 13 when you're terrified of the procedure.

I genuinely hope piercing the ears of my daughters at 9 months old is the thing they hate me for the most when they're adults. I will have done an exquisite job as a father if that's the case.

You make sound like ear piercing is a mandatory thing. If a kid is afraid of it then they could just choose not to have it done.
My first daughter had her ears pierced at 12. She asked for it to be done. My second daughter is a teenager and has no desire to have her ears pierced. I am not going to make her have it done.

What that it looks trashy? Cause I don’t need medical proof to have that opinion. Neither do the many other posters who thinks it looks trashy.

Hey but we all do something that others consider trashy....yours was piercing your baby’s ears

The AAP is essentially parenting for dummies. Their recommendations are designed so that an idiot can raise a child.

That's perfectly fine. Most girls want it done. Most would prefer it done before they have to experience it themselves.

Like I said, if they end up hating that we did it, so be it. I'll take my chances.
