That is a bit young for her and you guys to care for it. I'd say wait at least 2 or 3 more years. Your daughter may think it looks cool and hip right now but she has no idea how big of a pain it is to clean, keep the holes open, etc. etc. Just my thoughts - good luck in the decision either way, I know it isn't easy to say no to a baby girl.

Good thing I don’t care how you talk about me in the stables

You have made a life around posting all your problems here, don’t get mad when people attack you

I hope you have a kid one day, then you will see real world problems

Ask anyone with their ears pierced if they'd prefer a pediatrician do it at less than a year old or have it done as a teen.

Ask any pediatrician what they really think of piercing a baby’s ears. Many will tell you they would advise against it. But will do it when the parents insist.

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends postponing ear piercing until the child is old enough to care for it.

Again....American Academy of Pediatrics says to wait.

Yet you did it anyways. Just cause she did the piercing...doesn’t mean she agrees 100% with the practice.

Because they don't want it infected.

If a pediatrician knows the parents will do it, they're fine with it.

I'm instantly gonna judge parents of babies with pierced ears. It's a potential source of infection to the baby. But nooo....you ignored that because you wanted your precious "insert white trash girl name" to look cute when you show her around Walmart.

Don't be mad at us because your parents were shitty and didn't care for your pierced ear, leading to the infection.

Sorry your wife values baby looking “cute” over baby’s health.

Babies health? Are you too retarded to put a little alcohol wipe on an ear a few times for 3 weeks? You act like this shite is brain surgery

Point is...it isn’t necessary to do as a baby. There is no benefit except to please the parent.

Why not wait until baby is older?

It is a potential source of infection. Why risk that in a baby for something that isn’t necessary?

Cool link. Wait until their a teenager so they can get keloids. Sweet.

quote:

Complications also include the formation of keloids, noted Rossi, pointing to a small 2005 study in which 80 percent of the patients developed the unsightly growths after being pierced at age 11 or older (Pediatrics 2005;115:1312)
The researchers recommended that patients prone to keloid formation from personal or family history do not undergo piercing. If that's not possible, they recommend piercing before the age of 11.

Once again, the AAP wants to make sure the piercing is kept clean. I'll trust my wife to do that over an 11 year old.

Why is it trashy to do it younger?

I don't think it is trashy when they are infants. Easy enough for the parents to keep them clean and infection free.

I really don't understand why people have such a strong opinion on this. As long as the baby is fed, healthy and being taken care of who gives a shite if they have earrings.
