The city is fine. It's a young girl, a Marine, two other people and their families that were devastated. Did they 'deserve' it?

There are dozens of cranes like that in Seattle. I walked by several every day to and from work and always wondered...what if??

If this would have been on a weekday that area is packed with people going to/from work, eating at restaurants, etc...

It could have been much, much worse.

Multiple TV stations trying to get permission to broadcast in the comments.

What happens if they run it without permission?

Yes it does. If the rig is set up properly the wind is not going to blow it down. Not sure what happened here, but my first guess would be the ground caved in under one of the outriggers. And it’s someone’s responsibility to make sure the ground underneath is stable

most cranes are rated for 25mph, that's not very strong. not sure what that one was rated for. just read in another article that there was a 35mph gust at the time of collapse

but yes, poor soil conditions will cause the majority of issues.

Yeah exactly this. That dude is a retard, like winds can't blow something down, ever heard of a hurricane or tornado? But if you look in that video you can see dark clouds and some very few rain drops. Looked like a storm was rolling in and probably gusty winds came with it. That might not have had anything to do with it but winds most definitely can frick it up.

By friend's office is across the street. He said people at work thought it was an earthquake.

Well it was being taken apart when it happened if that’s any indication.

Was across the lake at gas works park when the crane fell. I took a picture of the Seattle skyline @ 3 o’clock, the crane fell shortly after.
