Exactly what I was about to say. If we come to a stop unexpectedly or quickly on the highway the first thing I do is check the rearview to see what's coming.

That is horrific. It's so scary that you can be doing everything right and have something like that come out of nowhere

I’ve been rear ended 2 times within a couple of miles of my house. I saw it coming last time while I was waiting to turn left. I saw the guy behind me not slowing down. I took my foot off the break and tried to increase my speed to go straight and out run him. He caught me anyway. Even driving as defensive and aware as I could I couldn’t stop it.

This happens way too often. I brake early, leave a giant gap between the vehicle in front of me, and watch the rear view mirror if I'm stopped on a highway. It gives you a chance to move out of the way. You might survive someone crashing into you from behind, but you won't survive getting pancaked into the vehicle in front of you.
I've jumped onto the shoulder in that situation to keep from getting plowed by a semi. Heard him locking up his brakes, I got on the shoulder really quick and he ended up stopping door to door with me.

When a guy is coming up that fast like in this video there is not much you can do.

Holy Crap! This is why I tried to stay away from 18 wheelers but these days it’s impossible.

Driving daily on the interstate is absolutely insane. The shite I see people do scares the shite out of me.

I watch the mirrors constantly. Always need a 360 visual of what’s happening around me. It’s the only chance you have if some bs like this goes down.

My wife was hit in s similar way but there was only one vehicle in front of her and the guy swerved so the 18 wheeler only hit the left half of the van. Totaled our van and the vehicle in front of her. No one had any lasting injuries thank the good Lord. Pakistani driving for a Canadian company. Dude never let up and he was doing at least 60.

That's multiple illegal trucker fatalities in just a few months that can be laid at the feet of California.

Why are they not being sued into absolute oblivion yet?

you can google Thomasville Alabama and semi truck accident. It'll take you to a local news clip with the video.

These trucks were already dangerous enough, now you gotta worry about illegal fricks driving around in them.

I work at a freight brokerage mainly shipping out of and into Cali and let me tell you, however many you think there are out there…

Triple it

ETA: Luckily they are cracking down hard on that shite. Should see the numbers decrease significantly over the next year.

It really IS time for ALL parties to agree on some basic truths/safety issues ! In most of Europe semis are relegated to the far right hand lanes, at speeds 10-15 % less than autos AND barred from using interstates from Sat. pm to Sun. pm. It has been PROVEN their 'system' is far safer than ours ! ALL the $ contributions given to our 'legislators'..as bribes to protect trucking companies and their unions should be outlawed ! Find a better way[s] to make our highways safer....NOW !

With all the texting and driving going on (not suggesting that was the case here), I just got a dash cam to try. If I like this one I’m getting it for all of our vehicles.

California has made it to where just about anyone can get a CDL without even having to be able to read road signs. This wreck is a prime example of the consequences of their decision.

This was in Ontario and the driver was a kid and high.
