Watching that makes my heart race. When I lived in New Orleans, on occasion, we had to work late on special projects. Scared me to drive home that late at night. Red lights were stop signs to me. I didn't hang around waiting for the green light. Figured I'd just eat a ticket if I got one. I never got one. There was a rash of purse snatchings from cars going on at the time.

A report from the New Orleans Police Department says as the victim exited the business in the 2200 block of Magazine Street at about 12:50 a.m. and got into his Toyota 4Runner four male suspects pulled up in a dark-colored vehicle, pointed a gun at him, and demanded he get out of his vehicle.

Great vehicle description. Partial suspect description

Well, the KIA is likely stolen and looked like they were wearing masks. Not sure what more info you want.

FWIW, 8 seconds from door closed to gun on Dan.

tough situation to be in even if you carry. Multiple gunmen make it a bit more challenging for sure

Realistically, not sure what advice to give in that situation. Dan takes off and drives they are probably firing at him or trying to chase him down.

Only chance would have been to have bolted before they had a chance to pull up beside him. If, for any reason, I'm having to drive somewhere at that time, I'm automatically operating on the assumption that another lone vehicle on the road is up to no good. At that point, I'm not guessing they are going to be willing to 'give chase' to him, but who the frick knows anymore?

Watch the video. Not sure what else you want him to do

Get in the car and lock the doors. He opened the back door first to put stuff back there. Then got in his car for almost a full 3-4 seconds before they pulled up beside his car. He was VERY unaware of his surroundings. It was preventable. I'm sure Dan is saying the same thing today.

It’s sport at this point. I don’t know how you change that mentality.

They need to send the national guard in there to bust heads until they can hire a real police chief, and clean house at the DA while they recuperate the NOPD to a point there they can maintain order. Too bad nobody has the balls, or even cares enough to do that.

Allegedly the black car that followed after the Kia had been reported to be following other cars around earlier in the night.

Can't verify all of that, but the statement was made before the video was public.

So your move would have been to pull out in front of the Kia that was driving at speed down Magazine?

In hindsight, totally agree with you. In the moment though you are saying he shouldn't have had something in his hands, then cut off oncoming traffic.

If he's sitting there with his doors locked and car in drive waiting for that car to pass this never happens. Dan got to his car at the 18 second mark of the video. At the 30 second mark he gets into the front seat and leaves his door wide open for 5 seconds. They pull up next to him at the 43 second mark. He was an easy target.

I'm saying he should've walked to his car, got in the front seat, closed and locked his doors, put his shite on the other seat then started his car. Should've been 5 seconds tops from the time he got to his car door to the time his doors were locked.

I walk to my car almost every night in the UMC overflow employee lot. Sometimes I'm parked on the street around the hospital. I do the shite every night. That was way too long considering what goes on in this city.

I like Stein's, but I'd bet anything that in public he will blame "disadvantages" and not the real issues

Came here to say just this. He will come up with a super-pc statement and conveniently forget that the majority of elected officials give zero f's about him or anybody else in NOLA.
