Pulling away any sooner puts him cutting off the car that he had no idea was about to carjack him.

He WAS an easy target. He's been here way too long to not know how to handle himself in the city.

Again, he stands a much better chance of getting out of that with just a little situational awareness. That's not debatable. Of course it's not his fault. You shouldn't have to have your fricking head on a swivel at all times but that's the reality here.

I love New Orleans. I live in Louisiana but not New Orleans. But a shithole such as that should be happy anyone claims it, not get all territorial over people saying "my" or "our."
Especially people who are from there or lived there a long time, regardless of where they currently live.
And considering that New Orleans is a giant blackhole for tax dollars, both state and federal, I think everyone can claim it.

Fwiw, more state taxes are collected from New Orleans than distributed.
Not true for federal dollars.
New Orleans would do well to explore returning some streets to state control like other parishes are doing, but then it probably becomes a civil war type issue with tax dollars.

As the largest city in the state and a business hub, this should be expected, but the spread should be much greater.

For my daughter's last birthday, she wanted to go down to New Orleans and do a weekend of shopping and brunch with her mom and sisters. Specifically wanted to walk Magazine among others.
I quickly vetoed that, and set them up on a trip to Fairhope. The downside was the extra 5 hours of driving total over the weekend. The upside was the fact they walked around in a clean, safe environment, never once did they worry about where they were or was around, and I didn't have a constant feeling of stress and dread all weekend that something horrible would happen.
