Peppers are an interesting example of just how stupid we humans are. Capsaicin evolved to discourage mammals from eating a plant's fruit. The bright colors and lack of capsaicin receptors encourages birds to eat them. This helps the plant because birds are better for pollination and seed dispersal.
Nature is fun. It just said, "Hey, let's make these frickheads think they are on fire!"

There are plenty of great sauces/peppers that pack a perfect amount of heat that taste delicious and don't put you in pain. Some people are just masochists

Been saying this. Spice is flavor. Pepper is hot.

If you want your crawfish hot ask for more cayenne, not for it to be more spicy.

Truer words were never spoken. I can still eat pretty much whatever I want, just in less quantities than I once did.

I've always had a good tolerance for hot stuff and love to make my own pepper sauces and jellies out of some of the super hot peppers, but I just have to eat that in moderation now or I'll pay the price at the arse end of the digestive tract.

No, they were added because it's the south and before refrigeration was common the meat was probably half rotten. You add spices to cover the fact that the meat has gone off. Add enough garlic and you can eat damn near anything.

Lemon pepper is my favorite but I love hot wings too. Currently struggling with the advance of time because what I used to be able to do is something my arse is no longer willing to cooperate with me on. I now pay dearly for each delicious bite

Wrong. Ghost peppers have a very distinct flavor.
