It's going to take laws, unfortunately. Pass a law where every AI video has to be watermarked as being such.

They have already passed a law that AI cannot be used for celebrity porn purposes, so I don't see what this can't pass.

It is almost there now. Just a matter of time before the "herding cats" with AI, becomes a powerful production tool.

That might work for cloud generation services but won’t make a difference to local generation - where most of the nefarious shite is likely to originate - unless it’s trained into the base model. And given that China has seemingly taken the lead on open source generative AI, it seems unlikely that they would care about US laws.

The reality is that people need to be suspect of everything they see online nowadays. The only way it doesn’t become a problem is if people develop critical thinking skills and learn to fact check shite on their own before sharing it.

Unfortunately, I think that means we’re probably fricked.

ETA: The alternative, which I’m sure the OpenAI’s of the world would love, is to simply ban local use of generative AI. There are already folks lobbying for that “solution.” But it’s a bit like gun control in the sense that the bad actors aren’t likely to care if it’s illegal.

There will be a video released in the last week of October 2028 that will determine the election. It will be proven to be fake, but not in time to prevent destroying any trust we have in our election system.

It’s pretty easy to tell that that video is AI. I never thought it was real for one second

I'm already accusing about 30% of the videos I see of being IA. Not sure if they aren't or not and don't want to spend the time trying to find out.

It’s clearly fake; no one thinks all those actors who look exactly as they did in their most famous movies are all in one place for a mega-selfie. Some of them are dead, even. So congrats?

The point is that it already can create content that appropriates living persons and current events so realistically that it will make it much more difficult to identify the fakes.
