Urging residents to evacuate and saying downtown Midland could be under 9 feet of water by Wednesday afternoon, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer late Tuesday declared a state of emergency for Midland County after the Edenville and Sanford dams breached.
Speaking during a press conference late Tuesday, Whitmer said parts of the city of Midland, the village of Sanford, Edenville Township and Dow Chemical had been evacuated. She said officials were working to evacuate residents in Tittabawassee, Thomas and Saginaw townships on Tuesday evening.
"This is unlike anything we’ve seen before... but this is truly a historic event that's playing out in the midst of another historic event," Whitmer said, referring to the coronavirus pandemic which has led to stay-at-home orders throughout the state.

I misread. I thought the governor was the dam failure.

But it was MUCH more important to stop people buying seeds and furniture than to keep up infrastructure...

So now she wants people to evacuate and stay with friends and family after telling everyone to stay home the past few months?

Is she going to continue to enforce her stay at home order?

Is Midland the Beaumont, TX of Michigan? Towns seem similar.

Couldn’t have happened to a more deserving governor...

In these uncertain times, I hope it isn’t the New Normal to have the Plaquemine facility negatively affected by this unprecedented tragedy

Have a very good friend in Midland. Their home is safe but says the damage is devastating in the area. Also drinking water problems are sure to ensue. Feel bad for them because they are all screwed with that lunatic Governor.
