Quite off topic

I saw a girl with the senior stuff written on her car yesterday that had her Venmo on it too

I'm rarely perturbed by this stuff anymore, but that was a first for me

Why? I have a coworker whose son was just diagnosed with a very rare disease. He makes good money and all that, but we still set up a meal train and an option for donations. This family's life was just completely upended by a freak accident, and I'd go out on a limb and guess they didn't make it for themselves.

No one's asking your bitch arse to donate anyway, so why even post?

Uh, yeah. You can go from being able to afford a Porsche to poor pretty quick when you become destitute for the rest of your life and not able to take care of yourself

This happened to a partner at my first firm in Atlanta. Also a Porsche. He was ok. Now has Parkinson’s. Life’s a bitch.

That isn't how it works where I am. If a neighbor tree falls on my house, my insurance has to cover it.

A little boy was killed by a relative in LP by a family member and they had plenty of money and I think raised way over 100k...that is just wrong to profit off something you had responsibility for

You aren't wrong to think it. But I think you maybe underestimating the magnitude of the financial cost of this accident. She will probably never work again. He will probably have to sacrifice his career to change his life to help care for his paralyzed wife and their child(ren). She will need life changing care, alterations to home, etc etc.

Having a porsche doesn't mean this won't bankrupt you fast.

You can pick up a 3-4 year old Cayenne with under 40k miles for around $40-45k. Same price as a loaded Accord or CRV. Depreciation kills these vehicles. You can be FAR from wealthy and have a Cayenne.

People make huge car payments instead of paying for short term and long term disability insurance or, God forbid saving money so if something happens they don’t have to beg.

None of what you described above would have any impact on an accident like this causing this couple to go broke.

I’m not giving to the go fund me, but damn yall are some assholes. It doesn’t matter that she drove a fricking Porsche, her and her family are going to be totally fricked up by this for the rest of their lives

Really? I have a LTD policy that in this EXACT situation would pay out at 70% my current comp for life with a disability. I’d have to double check but I think that is tax free at the federal level (I pay the premium with post tax dollars). I also live well under that 70% of my income level which means if that scenario happened to me, financially the trains keep moving like I was working.

I’m not minimizing the emotional and other impact (it socks it happened) but in a strictly financial standpoint shite like this can be hedged against. Just like when we were younger I carried term life to the point my family was financially better off if I died. It would soothe the emotional side of me being gone, but financially they’d been fine.

Except now you have thousands upon thousands of dollars in medical care a year, you’re house has to be retro fitted, you’re spouse has to take care of you (or pay someone to do it). 70% of your salary isn’t a drop in the bucket on what you’d spend, unless you’re LeBron James or some shite

Not really

Yeah.

I save a ton as it is but even with my disability policy I would be in trouble in regards to affording the level of care this poor lady is going to need.
