your legal interpretation is for the legal requirements of burglary to be met she would have had to have had the intent to commit a felony
ain't got time to look anything up now, don't believe the DA even took that route, I'm just saying that, in a nut shell, that's what happened

There was zero testimony that even suggested this and it is frankly silly.
and again, that's because the DA didn't take that avenue, DA's offices aren't always filled with the best and brightest, they aren't paid shite, they're overworked, and are usually there to pad the resume and make connections, sounds like you might be an attorney and that's why you think an opinion that differs than yours is silly, she broke into an apartment with a loaded gun and killed the occupant, who gives a shite what her intentions were? ignorance, being drunk or high, or fatigued is no excuse, certainly doesn't work for non-LEO perps

What's the difference between B & E and burglary? Attempted Burglary?

I’m not gonna read through everything, so the sentence was 10 years, how long before she is eligible for parole?

Because she is LEO and likes to sext, late next week.
Sorry, no idea.

Gotta say, I’m touched by the victim’s brother’s words and his hugging the shooter.
That is what Christianity is. Loving others and forgiving them as Christ forgave his persecutors.
That guy has more courage than most.

I do like how Texas has flexibility in sentencing. That way, white people only have to go to jail 5 years if they murder a black guy in his own home.

So you are suggesting she went into the apartment with the intent to commit a felony? If so, Jesus.
Dude you are barking up the wrong tree, you simply don't understand the law.
I am not stupid enough to try to argue with you about how to fly an airliner, so...

I actually know a lot about the law, just opining about the verdict, not developing a case, to use a beaten to death adage you guys love to use, “justice(and in this case, reality,) are not found in the courtroom, they’re found in the dictionary
ETA: opining about the sentence, not verdict

Just to be clear, pre verdict the consensus was frick the police protecting their own.
Day of verdict: maybe there’s some right in this country after-all for minorities and cops interactions.
Post sentencing: back to frick the blue?

10 years seems appropriate.

You can opine about the verdict or sentence all day long, I won't call you wrong but I may disagree if I have a differing opinion. That said if I write in a thread the 777-300ER has a max range of 1,500 nautical miles you will call me wrong and it won't matter how much I claim to know about aviation, 'cause I'm wrong.
Burglary requires the intent to commit a felony, theft or assault when you enter the structure. That simply isn't what happend here.

Ok. So B & E is just entering? No intent to do...???
I'm just curious.

I legit cried just now watching that.
Wow. What a testament to that mans faith and heart fealt Christianity even though he heard the racist texts she sent.
Faith in humanity = restored.

I think 10 years is a very appropriate sentence. It is absolutely meaningful and impactful. Perhaps it will cause others to think twice before overreacting.
It also allows her to have a life after prison.

I hate to say it but this is just another case of police officers getting off easy. If the shooter was just any random non-leo they would be serving much more than 10 years.
That being said, at least they got something. I feared for a good bit that she would get off scot-free, so I will definitely take this.
