It being sold by the Goodwill store, if true, is good news imo. Once the buyer hears about the situation, hopefully they have a heart and return it. If the jacket was taken by staff then the fam is fricked imo.

1. The jacket was stolen and the nursing home is claiming it was donated. No facility would up and donate all of the residents belongings with a family being involved and not contacting them first.

2. The family did not go and pick up the residents belongings for some time and the facility donated them. This is the less likely of the two but something that happens all the time when things are sitting around for an extended period of time.

Unfortunately there is always more to the story in these situations. Maybe a rouge family member came in and took the jacket. The family will point the finger at the nursing home regardless of if they are wrong or not. Harvest Manor is a good facility overall.

Re: #2 - it was less than a week between death and the Facebook post

Re: more to the story - highly unlikely in this situation

Which kinda leaves us with #1

I'm not disagreeing at all. It doesn't make sense that the facility would donate his things that soon. If that is the case then that is a major mess up on their end.

Where my FIL spent his last demented months, we never saw him wearing his own clothes. Not once.
That this man could keep something important to him is really nice, because in our experience, that's rare.

Are you serious? I have a cousin and know another person in the nursing home. Clothes come up missing all the time. So do other things. Hard to prove, but it darn sure happens frequently.

Good thing you can’t see how many junk emails I have sitting there, that would really bother you, lol. Tip taken, though.

Where does one go to donate/sell clothes to a store that isn’t Goodwill. I hate the idea of donating clothes that these assholes then sell for nearly 100% profit, but I’m not sure who to donate or sell to to recoup some of the money spent through the years

For the cost of recovering that jacket (if it's ever found) plus pain and suffering.

I'd need a two week visit at a five star hotel on the Amalfi Coast to ponder the jacket and get over it.

It is an official 501c3 charity, using 82% of monies collected in their programs to help people.

yeah there is a good possibility this is still in the back. I'd walk in and wave $100 bills at a couple clerks and see what they can find. It would be worth it to me to find something that important to my dad and I.

Good luck and if I were in the area I'd go look this afternoon. This is a cool coat and a great thing to keep and pass down.
