I can't blame you. Luckily, my daughter had one HS boyfriend and then one college boyfriend that she married after careers were established.

13 is young for dating except a school dance type event. Clean your guns.....

You did the right thing.

I know I will get downvoted for agreeing and that's OK.

Don't let her rush growing up. Thirteen is far too young to deal with the complexities of having a "relationship". She had her whole life ahead of her. Plenty of time for all of that when she is older. I think the most important thing that she saw is that you care about her enough to protect her from an unwise situation. She may hate you now, but she will appreciate it down the road. Good job, don't be afraid to be the a-hole parent. I wasn't.

OK baws......my daughter (13) asked to go to the movies with a boy (14) earlier today. I said NO!
So now she's not talking to me and my wife says I am being harsh. WTF?

Have fun with your daughter wanting to become a whore. Do what my Dad did in having the date pick up his daughter dragging a combined sword/rifle in his hand making it clear what will happen if he fricks with her.

Yeah 13 year olds definitely recognize this and the little fella is definitely just a piece of shite trying to get in her pants. 100%.

Over the Thanksgiving holidays, we were talking about my 12 year old and boys.

She interjected and said, “I don’t have time for relationships because of school. Education always first.”

How old are you? Got kids?

Didn’t think so.

It’s always hilarious to me that people that come to this board for advice for their kids on a board that’s full of people that can barely hold down a relationship, much less have any clue how to raise a child.

Is not letting your daughter date at 13 is the same as not letting your daughter drive after 9pm when she is 16?

Has anyone met a 13 year old? What's that, 7th grade?

How naive are you? Teenagers since the beginning of time see what they can get away with. It's just part of being that age.

Not naive at all. You're painting kids with an extremely broad brush.

I knew kids in junior high that smoked weed and drank alcohol until they were blackout drunk on the weekends, and then there are those kids who are still almost like...well KIDS that still enjoy a little bit of disney channel or cartoons, they go to school, have their sports activities after, enjoy pixar type movies etc.

Theres just VERY VERY different types of kids out there.

Also, there were those that were doing sexual shite in the movies on Fridays, and then there were those kids that were probably at their church doing some youth group activity.

Some kids actually respect their parents to a degree EVEN IN the rebellious years.

There's a difference in a kid that rebels via sneaking out of the house to have sex and do drugs while maybe getting caught trespassing in some abandoned house by the police, and a kid who rebels by running back to their room and giving their parents the silent treatment for the next day. The former case can effect that child for a long time if the pattern continues unchecked.

Just like when people get angry. Some husbands get angry at their wives and may hit their wives, most others might get angry at their wives and just walk in the other room. HUGE DIFFERENCE in how they respond to the anger. Sure both get angry, but the response varies greatly.

13 is old enough with a 14 year old and chaperone. Not like he is going to try and hump her in the theater.

Not hump. But I had classmates that were finger banging at that age. Dont let her go bro. As a father of daughters myself, don't give in and let that pimpled faced little turd in a dark room unsupervised with your daughter. Stand your ground

She’s going to a movie. Bring them and pick them up. Go with them if you want and sit behind them.
