I remember the day we brought him home from the hospital and we’ve seen or talked to each other almost every day for the 18 years after. But the whole point of those years was to prep him to go out on his own. I get emotional about it if I dwell on it but he’s out doing what he should be doing because we parents did what we were supposed to do.

I'd rather live at home than a dorm, frick that.

Why give up free room and board, laundry service, personal cook for a freaking dorm.

Plus my parents always let me drag sluuts up in my room

You choose to drop “godbrothers” on us but then call their dad “a close friend of the family.”

Wouldn’t that be your godfather and his sons are your godbrothers(which no one says in the U S and A.) Or that’s your godmother’s husband?

I assume if you love your kids, you’re gonna get emotional. It’s our job to raise them to become independent and move out and start their lives. It’s VERY bittersweet when that time comes. I’m a mom but I cried when my daughter moved out and I’m sure it will happen with my next two. I’ll be a mess when the caboose and only boy moves out but I’ll also be so proud and happy at the same time.

I stood in the driveway and watched my son leave for Auburn in August. Cried like a baby.

My mom quickly took over my room after I moved out. I took that as a sign.

The weekend before my son left for college we swapped my model room with his larger bedroom. Now I have more room for my models and he still has somewhere to sleep when he comes home to visit.

No, but he went to LSU and I knew we'd see him a lot (same for daughter [no pics]).

I will likely get a little emotional when they move away after they graduate.

First day of school and moving out are big ones. These smart phones make it worse. You have thousands of videos and pictures at your fingertips. You start watching old videos and wonder where did the time go. It’s like watching yourself grow up.

Yeah how dare those dads love their kids. They shouldn't be doing that.

It's weird because I wake up in the middle of the night sometimes and will think about the passing of time and it depresses me to high hell. I don't even know how I'm gonna cope with my kids moving out.

To add to what will probably make it worse, I've already informed all of my kids that they have to go to college out of state because Louisiana is a shite hole.

Yup. That last one moving out of the house is as life changing as the first one being born. A huge part of your life is gone and you aren’t getting it back.

I suspect this godbrother scheme is somehow related to the Gump predilection to incest.

I’ll posit that a godbrother is a the offspring of a parent and a sibling.

Usually (but not limited to) the biological result of a Gump Father/Daughter Dance.

My dad was fricking thrilled when I moved out. Wasn’t sentimental about me going to college.
