So allowing a family member keep their small dogs with him fills the house up with smoke, makes everything smell like cigarettes, causes cancer. People who smoke can just go outside and smoke, but come on man.. If his pops is an older guy, his dogs are his companions, etc.. You really comparing that to smoking?

Yes. I would never assume my dogs or smoke are allowed in someone's house.

I bet the dogs are more fun to be around than the family members the OP is referring to.

Well, looks like the dad needs to find a dog-friendly hotel and tell the family to frick off.

Family should help family. When your dad was denied help he should have just shut his mouth, put his dogs back in his vehicle and moved on.

If he was financially unable to get a hotel he should have driven inland, far enough to be away from danger, and stayed in his car for the one night that it takes a storm to pass through. While uncomfortable, it is just one night and he can get through.

As far as the family goes, he should be through speaking to them. They used an iffy excuse to deny him help in his time of need. There has to be more of a reason that they denied him. Is he a molester or just obnoxious? These two facets of the family have no reason to ever speak again.

yeah family member was affected by the recent flooding in Denham Springs and when they showed up with the cage for their dog and cat my I put a stop to that real quick. Some people are allergic to cats and dogs tend to mark new territories. Get the ok before you bring your pet.

I am allergic to dogs. After Katrina when my uncle lost everything in New Orleans and my ex lost everything in Slidell.

I took in his dog and my son's dog because they did not have a place to house them. I lived by myself at the time and have a nice size yard.

It was actually nice having the dogs , plus they got along and played

The dogs were both lab mixes about 50lbs each.

I don't agree with your fan member who suggests they should have been left, but Your dad should have clarified in advance he was bringing the pups, without question. That is pretty bold to assume it was okay.

In our family it wouldn't be a bold assumption, its kind of known that when people come over, the dogs are coming with them (all of the family dogs stay outside for the most part though, until at night they sleep inside).

So I agree its usually necessary to ask - but with family sometimes this things are sort of a given and don't require asking.
