Not disagreeing about the DA but, in all fairness, this article is typical NOLA.com shitty journalism. What the DA actually said was that addressing the issue as a local ordinance rather than changing the law statewide was stupid. He is right. It should be legalized state wide. Other than the facts though, continue the outrage.

This past weekend it was everywhere. Literally. People were passing pipes around. Completely in the open. Never remember it being a big deal in the past. Smell it sometimes here and there, but this time it was out there.

Whatever. Don't care one way or the other. The bums passed out from the heroin fix is more concerning to me.

The problem I have with marijuana being legal is that it normalizes recreational drug use.

That's not a good thing for society.

I might be willing to take a flier on him as LSU's new hitting coach. We can kill two birds with one stone, he's out at DA and LSU bats return.

What a damn fool.

Nola has much bigger things to worry about crime wise. The police, DA, and judges might just need to be more worried about using their resources to battle that small murder problem we have.

What do you think alcohol is? Tobacco?

I mean let's be real, you think bourbon street (and new orleans in general) doesn't promote recreational drug use in the form of getting shite hammered in the quarter?

NOLA would lose A LOT if recreational drug use was not normal.

I really can't wait until we legalize it nationwide and put all this behind us. It amazes me how elected officials still view it as "the devil's lettuce".

yet you people vote for clowns who install guys like this: LINK

I realize this may be an unfashionable belief in a time of growing tolerance of drug use. But too many lives are at stake to worry about being fashionable. I reject the idea that America will be a better place if marijuana is sold in every corner store. And I am astonished to hear people suggest that we can solve our heroin crisis by legalizing marijuana – so people can trade one life-wrecking dependency for another that’s only slightly less awful.

These guys aren't dumb.
They want their power and money, and marijuana prohibition gives them both.

read the whole quote
he's saying it's stupid to have a lessened penalty in Nola but not everywhere else.
he also said he'd enforce whatever the law is and and if it's legalized so be it

Mad cause he will have to actually have to work and put murders and the "cultua" in prison rather than let them walk to the kids that toke up

Do you believe for one second that if a recreational marijuana bill was being considered that Leon and all the other DA's in this state would scream bloody murder about how our state (currently ranked 47th or below in most categories) would go to shite once weed was legalized? I mean let's be real, he may say that he'll enforce whatever the law is, but don't think for a second he would just sit back and keep his mouth shut if legalization was on the horizon.

and?

I don't see a problem here and forty bucks is fair for possession, I also believe that it shouldn't go on someone's record or it should be able to be expunged in half a year.

The real money is gonna be in expungement and court costs.

I'm pretty much done with Cannizzaro.

I appreciate what he did cleaning up the office after the racist POS that was Eddie Jordan.

But he's a lunatic. In his dream world, every single person would be in jail forever. Everyone is a criminal to him.

Between this, and his actual putting a rape victim in jail for 8 days for refusing to testify, and actually bragging about doing it? I hope someone good runs against him whenever he's up for another race.
