Fit as a fiddle?

That's just preposterous enough to be true.

Never heard this one before, but I am definitely going to pawn it off as my own.

Pertains to how very tightly and perfectly a fiddle fits in its case.

Sounds like a 90’s Internet “explanation”.
But it’s not like I know better.

Can't have your cake and eat it too.
What the hell is the point of having a cake you can't eat?

I’ve always liked the economics lesson in that phrase. Like, you can’t have a hundred dollars and spend a hundred. You get one or the other.
But it could also apply to a bunch of other stuff. Like physics.

You can certainly do that. Use the first hundred to buy something at one cost, then turn around and sell it for $200, spending $100 on what you like and keeping the profit to repeat the process.

Raining cats and jammer kids
When did it ever rain cats and jammer kids?

The Katzenjammer kids were a comic about a family, with lots and lots of children.

Weird. "One in the hand is worth two in the bush" popped into mine.

One in the hand and two in the bush makes perfect sense, it’s better to have one of something then not have any..
I always heard it "A bird in hand is worth two in the bush"...which makes much more sense.

I’ve always wondered where “You couldn’t swing a dead cat” came from.
That's nothing compared to "there's more than one way to skin a cat" or "beating a dead horse".
Sadistic mofos back in the day.

And if you realize that the word bird in English is slang for woman (going back to Middle English), it really starts to make sense.
In fact, the word bird shares roots with the word bride, which originally was the word bryd.

I hope to god you are a female.
If not you need to start acting like a man.

You muttonheads have never heard of the Ting Tings?
Katie White was quite hot, and their most famous song has her saying ´are you calling me bird?´ in it.
That is her in the gif.
