So the Cruise company is seeking legal action for something that happened outside of US waters. How does that work?

Wrong,

Symphony of the sea is a baller ship.

This is not carnival, this is quite literally one of the nicest yachts in the world.

. What damages could they really be seeking? I don't think the article title "Idiot guy jumps 100ft off Cruise ship to "send it"" is going to have a profound impact on their reputation.

Very little.

I don't care how nice a boat is, being trapped on one with thousands of other people is my nightmare vacation.

I vacation to get AWAY from people. Cruises can DIAF.

My brother and a bunch of his friends went on a cruise for their senior trip several years ago. One of their classmates jumped off. He died.

Ship was moving. Body was never found.

Too bad Royal Caribbean couldn't amuse the rest of the ship by intentionally leaving him in Mexico.

STA senior trip? I’m the same age as the guy who jumped off. We were really good friends when we were younger, but drifted apart when we went to different high schools.

Don’t you hear about every single person that goes overboard? What about every time a stomach bug goes through a ship? The news media plasters the cruise ship and line’s name all over the place for days.

Someone falling overboard or getting sick DEFINITELY is a bad look for these cruise lines. The thing is, NO ONE just falls overboard. It’s impossible. Everyone that goes over, jumps on purpose. That doesn’t bother me at all.

What's this about?

Probably trying to make him pay a fee for whatever resources they used to fish him out.

I would guess man-overboard protocol on a huge arse cruise ship is a pretty fricking big (expensive) deal.
