folks on this board are some of the most self deprecating I have ever seen....constantly criticizing everything about the state, city and university. I am always amazed at how little pride we have in these things.
LSU is doing ok, Scruffy guesses.

I love Baton Rouge. Sure, it has its problems, but I choose to live here. I've lived other places so I have a frame of reference for what else is out there. I don't understand why people complain so much. If you don't enjoy it, move away or to the suburbs. A lot of positivity or negativity comes from what individuals choose to do. I choose to enjoy all that BR has to offer.

I have been in Baton Rouge for 15 years now so I feel like I have a pretty good feel for the city. It seems the biggest complaints are from the people who liked Baton Rouge more when it was a just a large town. Now that it is a good bit bigger and more diverse, we have more problems. Transitions arent always easy, but constant negativity won't help fix it.

I also feel like we have a lot coming to Baton Rouge in the near future.
Local government leadership is deplorable. Until that changes, we will have major issues.

At least baton rouge people know their town is a shithole. New Orleans people are in straight up denial.

There is a lot of this...it's called St. George. The same people that are destroying BR are keeping it from happening.

Most people I know who "hate" it typically fall into one of the following categories:
1. They grew up in the New Orleans area but now go to school here. They complain about there being nothing to do while never going to any festivals, eating nothing but fastfood, and never going out anywhere except to Tigerland bars, if even that. They mostly just play video games and b$&@h.
2. They live in AP or LP and never go into the city unless they're going to the mall or an LSU game because of all of the "democrats".
3. Young SJW's who grew up here and resent that it's not Portland or Austin while they get their liberal arts degree on their parents' dime.
BR is really not a bad place, in fact, it was on its way to being a pretty nice place to live up until last summer. The last election for mayor has left many of us pessimistic, but now is not the time to despair. If we put up better candidates and fight the race-baiting agenda, Broome's reign will be short and we can get back to building BR into a competitive small-mid-sized city.

Broome will be disastrous for Baton Rouge. Even if you can somehow overlook her race-baiting agenda, I don't think that she is capable of bringing new businesses to BR, at least not the kind the city needs to grow. She represented NBR in the state senate for over a decade, and it's still as shitty today as it was when she was first elected.

I live just outside BR...I am more glad than ever that I do ever since she won the election.

Scruffy went to LSU. The city outside that small area is a shithole and makes LSU look bad. The government is completely corrupt. The crime is getting worse and is encroaching on the LSU area.
The city is in an absolutely terrible position and should be called out constantly.

How do you fight the race-baiters when they run the city? Does the metro council have the power to reign Broome in? Scott Wilson should run for mayor in 4 years.

The council has a fair amount of power, and the majority of council members oppose her.

There's a battle in this city and the front line is around Florida/Government. Unfortunately the enemy has the mayor and a good chunk of the city council on their side. Because of that the front line isn't retreating north and the pockets of enemy territory south of that line are growing.
Some people are trying to fight the war through gentrification, but TPTB are hindering them.

I've been here since 73. It's a total shite hole now.
