I would guess there is a cockpit recording from which they know who had control of the plane and if he asked the copilot to do something, that should be recorded, no?

What's interesting is in 2006 there was a plane crash that killed all six of the crew. The co-pilot had a wife. To honor her late husband she decided to become a pilot. This was her last flight as co-pilot before making captain.

It's tragic that more hasn't been done insulate passengers from loss in the case when a plane crashes. Just another example of the failures of human engineering
The fact that there's hardly any crashes is a amazing.

Well ... that didn't end well for those directly involved.

Well, of course. Now that everyone is dead, and no one left that can refute their 'findings'
Well they have the black box and and CVR that recorded them going through the checklist, so…

Is it really that easy to make this kind of mistake on modern airplanes? It seems like there would be some kind of warning while getting ready to land, whether mechanical warning or computer.

Pretty much how I imagined it being.
I am amazed that the phone was able to continue recording and transmit data.

That explains it. My greatest fear of flying is having a female pilot or co-pilot.

I just watched the investigation on this the other day.
She was the pilot in command, the pilot monitoring was the senior pilot. She was taking her first flight into this newly opened airport and the senior captain was there to train her on the approach proceedures. It was his job to configure the aircraft. She had control of the yoke and the throttles. Unfortunately neither of them noticed the torque output on the propellers was 0% and when they took the final turn to the runway they both finally noticed that their airspeed was too low and that they had no thrust even at 100% throttle. She transferred command to the senior captain since he had experience on this approach and she finally saw what happened to the props by that time it was too late and the aircraft entered a stall.
TLDR:

My God, it's not THAT bad honestly. nothing gory or anything like that. I've seen videos that make this look like a birthday party.
