Those other Helicopers arent equipped to lower a man down to rescue someone from the air
I think that's mostly true. I think we (the guard) rigged some for roof retrievals and stuff, plus there was air/ground coordination at times - insofar as those elements could communicate at all. I know I saw footage of green helicopters pulling people off roofs, although I didn't witness any rescues myself (other than my own). We boated out from Jackson Barracks to the river levee and got picked up by Blackhawks ferrying us to the Superdome.
Good times...

God damn I couldn't even read it, it was so fricked up.

A source familiar with the investigation said detectives found in the couple's apartment two pots on the stove, one containing a woman's head and the other her hands and feet. Next to the pot containing her head were carrots and potatoes that had been cut up; none had been placed in the pots. In the oven were turkey-basting trays containing human legs and arms, the source said. At least one of the pans had seasoning sprinkled on the limbs, the source said.

I watched black hawks flying in and out of the track next to the LSU field house from the Superdome. They were damn near on constant rotation.

Im by no means into the gory details of the story, but I read it is more of a story of the killers life. That type of thing is interesting to me. The psychosis and change of someone’s behavior is interesting.

I also know that disaster planning became a significantly higher priority for all cities along the cost after the shite show that was NOLA. If the houston response would have been anywhere near as bad as NOLA’s shame in them for not learning and planning.
Instead though the governing body had plans in place and handled it better

Not in the Dome. The conditions were awful, ran out of food and water and no toilets. But it is an urban myth that people were being raped and killed. How do I know? My cousin is married to the guy who was in charge of the National Guard. Saw him at Thanksgiving that year and asked how bad was it. He said it was terrible and the suffering was awful, but not anything like wholesale carnage. He is now a retired General. So, I'm taking his word over any other person.
Yep. The Dome always had food, water, and some level of security, even if it was minimal. Completely miserable conditions. Guards talked about people hollering and yelling in the crowd for a fight or that someone was getting "raped", then they would push their way through and the perps would have disappeared into the crowd and "no one saw nothing."
All things considered, it could have been much worse. The Convention Center had no supplies at all at first. Also no security. That said, there is no evidence of widespread violence there either.
There were thugs shooting at first responders here and there, but again, not widespread.
For me, coming back into Jefferson Parish for a day one week later was surreal. The damage was nothing compared to Orleans, but it was pretty bad. Also, everyone was armed. It was weird.
Drove around New Orleans two weeks after that, right before Rita. It felt like driving around Hiroshima after the bomb hit or something. Definitely had a sense of the Apocalypse. Strange times. Prefer never to have to deal with anything like that Post-Katrina stuff ever again.

YES! I'd completely forgotten about seeing emergency vehicles from all over the country moving around SELA.

Actually, the State of Texas charged the Counties to prepare for emergencies after 9-11

Where in my post did I even remotely come close to this? I actually have Texas props for looking at the disaster that was Louisiana planning, saying we don’t fricking want that to happen, and making a plan
