You think people are smarter because they can afford a Southwest “wanna get away?” fare? Yikes

Smarter than the dipshit buying a 40 in front of me at Foodarama with his pants at his thighs, while talking to his baby mamma on his cell with one hand in his pocket getting change and his pants falling further down?

YES, absolutely.

That is pure speculation. As is my comparison. But I say mine holds up better than yours.

You’ve made a good point about people being assholes in planes, everything else you’ve stated is jibberish

I did. And yea, I hear you. But I have also been to Food Town, Foodarama, Dollar Tree, Fiesta and Family Dollar...

If my life depended on it, I'll take the person who booked a ticket, paid for it, packed, made it through TSA... over the average citizen.

You have a very low threshold of what intelligence is

New Zealand just disarmed their citizens, now their airline is enforcing thought crime.

This trend is concerning.

Actually, you have a poor understanding of statistics, populations, etc.

In fact, you based an entire argument on persons who can afford SWA low fares, as if that was some sort of indicator of EVERY passenger in an exit row.

Those who bought a low fare on SWA (or Spirit) are a tiny fraction of airline passengers. And I suppose an argument could be made that perhaps they are dumber than the average person.

But that means your argument is based on shite.

85% of American adults have flown on a plane. I'd pick something a little more discerning for life dependency.

This is tangently connected, but 41 people died in a crash in Moscow last week. The aircraft caught fire on landing.

Passengers in business class stopped to grab their luggage, delaying the evacuation of the aircraft.

While the plane was quickly enveloped in flames, the delay was a factor in the death toll.

The passengers in an exit row should take their duties seriously.

See, now THAT was a good point. Thanks for a smart counter-argument.

All in all though, the lot of y'all have glossed over my FULL point to focus in on about six words. So I shall re-state it:

If you were asking me about the average person in front of me or behind me in line at the grocery store, you'd have a better point.

However, there is a small "uptick" in intellect (again, I said small) for airline passengers. And a larger uptick in intellect (likely, at least) for those who skillfully navigate their way to an exit row.

So yes, I think the average person in an exit row would do a decent job, IF they paid attention to, AND remembered the instructions given. I'd break it down as such:
20% would do an exemplary job
45% would do a decent to good job
35% would suck and/or contribute to fiery deaths of passengers

Also, it is worth noting that in SOME incidents, the crew would have time to RE-BRIEF the exit row folks of what was impending, and at that point, I'd put have far more confidence in their actions.

When I do have the window seat on an exit row, after the safety briefing, I typically tell the aisle person "if something happens, you hold 'em back and I'll get this door off".
