Yeah I’m pretty sure New Zealand requires a net worth of like $2M as a first step toward immigrating. It’s extremely difficult. They are not shy about being unwilling to take the dregs of society into their country.

Also a plus for immigrating there if you can.

’m giving serious thought to the Flag Theory of perpetual travel. See links below.

Thanks for those links. I'm actively planning my wife and I leaving the US to go to EU. She's a EU citizen and I love the history, architecture, landscapes, etc of EU. We're talking about living in places like Portugal/Spain, France, Italy, and a couple others for months to a year at a time and just completely immersing in the culture. Would definitely be open to other countries, but EU should occupy at least 5-10 years. We have no kids and I plan to retire in my late 40's.

Malta

The answer will always be Malta... tons of American and British expats... right next to Italy... inexpensive housing... fresh Mediterranean seafood and cheap fine Italian wine

My husband and I talk about this a lot - we’d like to go to Ireland or rural UK/Scotland - I’d like to go to Rahan, Offaly, Ireland - some of my ancestors are from there and it’d be like full circle. Plus it’s pretty much in the middle of the island so easy to get anywhere - it’s not as pretty as Dingle or as intriguing as the West but heck, it’s Ireland!

I wouldn’t say no to anywhere else in the EU, but we’d have to work and visas would be a problem (and language in some areas).

We have relatives in Central America - so if we had to get away we have a place to go - South America might not be too bad since language is not a problem

100% plan to leave the country when I retire, sooner if the right opportunity presented itself. I’ll be here for at least 10 years til my kids have moved on to college though.

I don’t know if this counts but 1st 7 years of my life were spent in SW Louisiana then on to Toronto though most of the family is still in Louisiana and Georgia where I would spend most summers Christmas’ and March breaks. I worked for Czech Republic trade ministry for 3 years and then moved from Toronto to Nova Scotia. I would highly recommend Nova Scotia-it’s breathtakingly beautiful scenery with ocean and mountains, great fresh seafood, cheap housing prices and 98% Scottish Irish and French population if you’re into redheads and blondes with pale skin. Also one of the highest rates of gun ownership in Canada with tons of hunting and fishing...there is also a ton of Germans buying property in Cape Breton soooo Octoberfest sauerkraut and bratwurst incoming...

I have been to Costa Rica several time to visit and expat friend that I have known since childhood. I would move there mainly because he is fluent in the language and well known and liked among the locals. I would be skeptical to move anywhere I did not have someone to help me with language, the local laws and customs.

Portugal or Copenhagen

Copenhagen is fantastic to visit, but it has one of the highest costs of living in the world, that being only slightly less than New York or Honolulu.

Slippy, it's f-in cold up there. There are plenty of places in the US that are isolated, especially if you're not opposed to cold weather. Have you seen Fargo?

If you’re in Bodø or one of the islands it’s fine imo, I probably couldn’t do the 24 hours of sunlight or dark though
