I don't think we'll ever again see them hijackacking planes like they did on 9/11. They'll figure out someway of pulling off another "spectacular" attack though. I figure something like a 18 wheeler packed with explosives/gas cylinders, etc. somewhere or something along those lines.

I'm skeptical it could play out exactly as the previous attack.
If it happened again, it would have to be a quick strike. Take a plane at an NYC airport and immediately fly it into Freedom tower. Essentially the 9/11 pentagon attack
I think a plane hijacked from BOS diverting to NYC would be shot down once its flight profile showed a descent into NYC proper
What frightens me even more than a repeated physical hijacking is a "virtual" hijack of the onboard systems leading to a systemic hijack that could jeopardize every flight in american airspace.
American cyberdefense systems are severely lacking
If it happened again, it would have to be a quick strike. Take a plane at an NYC airport and immediately fly it into Freedom tower. Essentially the 9/11 pentagon attack
I think a plane hijacked from BOS diverting to NYC would be shot down once its flight profile showed a descent into NYC proper

I don't see them doing it hand to hand with box cutters, but if they could enroll 10 or so jihadis in flight school at the same time and just wait until they all get legitimate commercial jobs....

The next terror attack will probably be something more unexpected, but, rest assured, the pilot for the next plane attack is already in the pipeline for commercial airline employment, or worse yet, flying training missions in our navy or air force jets.

I've always been worried that this is the next evolution, whether it's a bombing, mass shooting, or even flying into a crowded arena. While there was security just about everywhere, we strolled right into the AR/TCU game this weekend without so much as a wand over us. It's scary how easy it could be, so much so that I didn't even want to type out this post to have this info out there.

If you never traveled on the subways in NYc, you’d be amazed at how vulnerable they are. Millions of people use the trains each day and there’s not even a metal detector. There are police at a couple of stations but they aren’t doing any checking. I’m honestly surprised it hasn’t happened yet.

As in terrorist hijacking planes & running them into building in NY and the Pentagon and possibly almost the White House?
Hmmmm.. Nothing is 100% secure, but if all factors equal today, I would put my money on the plan to be broken up before they do it.
If we are talking about whether or not terrorist attacking a major US city causing a lot of destruction then yes it can happen again.
Part of Al-qaeda's agenda is to attack America. More than any other terrorist group. We (the US or any other counter terrorist country) were not able to completely destroy Al-qaeda. I think they have allies with a lot of different terrorist groups and once they form an alliance, the terrorist group still operates under the same name, however; they function under Al-qaeda's policies.
Evidently Bin Laden has a son who is suppose to become it's new leader soon and on top of their agenda is to attack America.. It is personal for him and I think it is believed he likely wants to seek revenge and Al-qaeda doesn't just throw together some half-arse plan and hope it works. 9/11 for example, they started planning right after their failed attempt to blow up the towers in the early 90s. So from that aspect I think so.

Not only can it happen again, I'm confident we'll see it again in our lifetime. It's approaching the 20 year mark where disasters typically strike our civilization, so I think we're about due. And it might not even be Islamist. It could be a delusional Antifa terrorist plot that could attempt to wipe out the RNC or Wall Street. Or some Alt-Right group could go massacre a college campus.

I don't think a gun will work anymore on a plane. Before planes were hijacked decently often, and the status quo is you issued threats, they get paid, and people run free so long as no one does anything stupid. When people think there's a possibility of death with a gun and a certainty of death if they do nothing, then everyone would toss the dice and go up against the armed hijacker. It just wouldn't work in this day and age.

I don't think there is legitimately a way to do that. Meaning no airline has the ability to control it's aircraft at all from the ground like a drone, so I don't see how it would be possible to hack into the plane and control it.
Now an actual drone? That's a danger. Hack into a drone on a test flight, steal it, and run it into a building. Or just buy your own drones off the shelf and turn them into weapons.
