Starting salary for a Minneapolis Police Officer is $54k and starting salary for a New Orleans Police Officer is $40k.

Are they really recruiting quality candidates that can make intelligent and rational decisions on some very sensitive issues at that salary?

I was having this conversation this morning. It is like teaching both are noble professions. Would paying teachers more make them better teachers?

Great idea, when do you apply?

Working in education I can absolutely be sued and lose my pension if I so much as restrain a kid and it's not under proper Safe Crisis Management protocols. Same with when I worked in a psychiatric facility.

Did I trigger you suggesting personal responsibility or something?

The police force would have a huge weight lifted off it's shoulders stretchering them thin if we stopped using them as revenue collectors and enforcing every little asinine law on the books. The jurisprudence leading cops to search a car following a fully unrelated traffic stop has, I would assume, done more to foster disdain against them than almost anything.

I’ll post again since none of the police haters wanted to approach it.

Even if the salary started at $100k, I’m not taking that job no matter how desperate I was. Police across the country now have a target painted on their backs. We’ve seen multiple instances of them
being shot, killed, and put in critical care over the last few nights all in the name of #justice

Look up David Dorn. Executed Sunday night in Las Vegas so rioters could get to some TVs. He’s an African American, does his black life not matter?

NINE

90% of it could be solved by honest reporting of it.

Police brutality isn’t really an issue.

These are isolated cases that are magnified to create a narrative. There is negligence and abuse in every profession, impossible to completely eliminate it.

Quit being obtuse. Local police don't need tanks and mraps. Local cops doing duty in Walmart dont need to tactical vests loaded with various devices, and militarization is not just about equipment, it is also philosophy and protocol
You forget the Walmart mass shooter already? The local police in cities which have seen molotov cocktails tossed around lately dont need armored transportation? These leftist terrorists are not capable of creating an IED? You lack foresight.

The military pays less to 18 year old kids and throws them into war zones without issue.

The only way money should come into play when dealing with police brutality is hitting the cops in their own pocketbooks. It's absolutely batshit insane that TAXPAYERS foot the bill when an officer gets sued for brutality. Make them pay via their unions or pensions. I guaran-fricking-tee you that the moment Jim Bob realizes that Bobby Jo's decision to kick the shite out of some innocent person is going to hit him in his wallet, that "blue line" will get a lot thinner.

Probably. Compensation is one of the things I consider when I look at career choices.

Seems like when universities tried to save money on coaches their Football programs tended to suck. That's an analogy, please don't interpret this as 'Hallman/Dinardo lost control of BRPD'. I know someone will.

Oh please. So I guess we should follow the Minneapolis City council and get rid of the police and use Community Outreach Groups to enforce the law?

Jesus Christ, y'all know there are possibilities in between, right?
The problem wont get solved unless both side admit there are issues on both sides. As long as one sides acts like they do no wrong, its' just going to keep getting worse.
