Would be interesting to see what happens in this scenario without any modifications to the rules. I'd watch highlights from it, be boring as frick to watch them attempt it.

Rusty Wallace hit 228 at the end of the straight at Talladega not that long ago, averaged something like 221.

And Bill Elliot qualified at 212.809 mph at Talladega in 1987. On an oval. More than a decade before this F1 run. Obviously, 240 mph is a whole different world than even 200 mph, but notice that the speedo on the F1 was above 380kph for a total of 24 seconds.

Not sure what you are trying to say here, but F1 cars will be significantly faster on a race track, its pretty much proven. They[F1] just dont race on ovals because no one wants to see them turn left 800 times. But the races on the same courses, they significantly faster. Look at Watkins glen. average nascar around 100 mph, F1 120-130 mph. Thats a hell of a difference

He was talking about the McLaren, not the racing organization.

We're talking about the McLaren F1. Not Formula 1.

I'm trying to say that supercars, regardless of which one, were never intended to be ran at even 80% capacity for however long a gas tank lasts, then pit to fill up, head back out and run at 80-85% time after time, for 500 miles. They weren't built for that, and I seriously doubt any of them could take it.

They were built to handle, look good, run well all around, and be able to do a high speed blast every once in a while.

You aren't seriously comparing NASCAR and F1 speeds on a road course, are you? Why?

And yet somehow, against all odds, they manage to do it.

That's cool and all, but you're wrong. This isn't the 80s anymore. Your Countach doesn't need a tune up between oil changes like it used to to make 500 hp.

There are classes you can enter with your supercar in endurance racing that is basically stock + slicks + Safety gear.

I rest my case. If you don't understand, compare and contrast the LeMans and Talladega tracks.

Many of them were built with the GT circuit in mind. Which is endurance racing

Jeeze. I don't think I ever saw a 'supercar' even make it through an hour of Top Gear. No way, no how in a race of any length.

They're for looking at and making vroom vroom noises, not actually moving anywhere.

Yeah, but can a modern 600 hp supercar make a near constant 480 hp for 3-4 hours? That is the question here.

I wouldn't doubt there are classes for VW Beetles too.

not the same thing, some classes may be based on production, but those engines are highly modified for endurance racing.
