Take a mechanical clock with rotating hands (hours, minutes, seconds) and gradually move it closer to a black hole.

1. At a sufficient distance, the hands rotate around the clock at more or less “normal” rates.

2. As you move it closer and closer to a black hole, the rotation of the hands seem to slow down to an observer standing at the original position.

3. As the clock approaches the event horizon, the rate of the clock slowing down approaches infinity.

4. Finally, at the event horizon, the clock appears to stop working completely to an observer standing at the original position. It will now take an infinite amount of time for the second hand to move one second.

It’s called gravitational time dilation.

Edit:

Now, here’s the kicker. Spaghettification occurs due to different tidal forces exerted on your body (if you were to dive into the black hole feet first). Your feet will be pulled at a greater rate than your head, stretching you out. But as your feet are also closer to the singularity, from your head’s perspective, this stretching is taking an eternity to progress.

Both things are correct.

Time slows in high gravity environments and tidal forces shred any matter that gets close enough for a few feet of distance to be a significant difference in gravitational pull.

You’d be torn apart through spaghettification. But since time dilation approaches infinity as you get closer to the singularity, your death will seem like an eternity.

That sounds like an awful way to die. Maybe that’s what Hell really is.

it's a very large one, you can survive crossing the event horizon. You just never come back out.

When are the progressive college professor going to accuse the physics department of racism for the term black hole?

And I’m sure the heat is rather intense.

Now where have I read about a combination on eternity and intense heat? Hmmm…

In a theoretical warp bubble maybe but in reality you would be torn to shreds.

Or go to hell according to the movie.
