Place a wet cold rag across your throat. Takes a few minutes to get used to, but it’ll stop it. An old grandmas trick....

OP, you have fluid build up in your chest. I deal with this all the time. Some nights, I have to sleep with 3 pillows.

Any swelling in your legs?

Not all people with CHF have swelling in their legs. I'm one of them. It happens in my chest. I'm stage 4.

If you go to a Dr, and they do a Rx....tell them you want Tessalon Pearles. It's a capsule form of a cough suppressant. The damn things work wonders! It's an old drug too..but still works. Cleared mine up.

Any suggestions?

Buy a used wedge shaped frick pillow on craigslist. Sleep on it to prop up your back. Keep febreeze by the bed in case smells waft from it. Remember to NOT roll over on your face. You’ll catch pinkeye and eye and nose herpes.

Take a sleep aid like Benadryl or Advil PM

After you get the AIDS fixed and determine if it's not your belly/gerd issues, I would bet it's allergies causing a post-nasal drip.

Even people with very mild allergies get the same "cough only when i lay down to go to bed" problem.

I may sneeze and blow my nose throughout the day but nothing major. Then the coughsies hit as laying down sometimes, often out of the blue.

Benadryl and Ibuprofen PM work well. Or any sleepy time Antihistamine/cold med.

It's a small thing to complain about in the big picture but it can be frustrating as frick when you're otherwise feeling healthy.

May be a stretch, but my father had fluid in his lungs and couldn't sleep b/c it would get to him when he laid flat. Being as stubborn as he was, he refused to see a doctor and wound up with pneumonia.

Good luck.

My dumb arse didn't get a decent night's sleep for 6-8 months because I didn't want to see a doctor and just kept waiting for the night cough to go away. Turns out I developed asthma in my late 20s and needed treatment. Yay.

Long story short, if this lasts for very long just go in and get looked at. It could be a few things.
