I just talked to a longshoreman that works there and was told that the cost of unloading a container from a ship went from $1,800 to $18,000.

I have no way of knowing if this is true or not, but if it is it would indicate that cost of goods is about to go up even more.

No, from what I’m hearing it’s now up to $20K. So yes, it’s even worse.

They don't have to do that if they don't want me buying Chinese crap. Just ask.

How, though?

Go to the five closest Home Depots and you can round up a crew to do it for a few hundred.

I’d heard the cost to ship had gone up dramatically.

Did that include unloading at the dock or is that a separate cost being added on?

If the latter, Dollar Tree fixin to have Jack shite on the shelves.

The problem is they can’t hire enough people to unload the ships and there are Covid regulations still in place. It’s a nightmare.

I think the entire country may be ready to string up Newsom if he fricks everyone through screwing up port operations.

I own a store that buys a container or two of merchandise a year. Our first container(40') last year was roughly $2,500 freight. Our first one this year was a 20' container and the cost was almost $8,500. This was back in the spring. We've got another one on its way that was suppose to be here in August, but has been delayed to November. They sent us a letter saying the estimated freight on it would be roughly $24,000, but that it was subject to change based on current rates at the time of port. Cost of the merchandise is approximately $30,000. So, this is basically doubling our cost. Yes, prices are going up.

I control the Western portion of the United States, and all my customers can talk about are him and Garcetti. The day after he wasn’t recalled everyone was livid.

I read an article linked in one of the food price threads that said the cost of shipping the container has gone from around $2k to $18k. Not unloading. Not any better but just responding to the comments asking why they cost so much to unload.

Yeah that’s what I meant in my first post. It’s the container that costs that much, not just unloading it.

I have a feeling I’m going to go in hibernation mode and only spend money on bare necessities.
