It makes me jealous. I wish I could afford that. My 15 year house mortgage is less. Good for him/her!

We could afford for my wife to be a stay at home mom if our mortgage and private school tuition was only $1700

That amount of money for rent makes me sad for you

Paying anything in rent is depressing. It’s a black hole with nothing to show for at the end. But it would have to be a necessary evil if I moved there in a month or so.

It makes you mobile but that's generally about it unless you buy when the market is high. I bought our first house in 07 and sold it at a 15k loss 8 years later.

Paying rent isn’t bad. Just make the move. You will love the place and there are affordable areas and things to do. Not everyone is super rich. Plenty of locals. Just go down valley a bit to where this thread suggested. I wish I never left

I wish I paid $1,700 on my rent.

What city do you live in so I can decide if I should feel sad for you or not? I’m guessing I should.

A bus used to run every day. That makes the commute easier.
It doesn’t sound like you love the outdoors and mountain livIng enough to go.

Jesus Glenwood is pricey now? I dated a girl from there back in college and that place was a shithole. I mean, being surrounded by the mountains was beautiful, but the town itself was awful.

This goes for all of Colorado sans the ski towns. You will be looking at 1.50 per sq ft or more, and people pay 1000 for a single bedroom in a 3bdr apartment. People in Aspen I know consider Summit County blue collar. think about that.

I got bored living there but I don't snow ski. I did mountainbike a lot in the summer and trout fish a little bit. But its a small town with not a lot of entertainment except for making fun of wheezing tourists. If you are single then its worth living there for a couple of years. Once you live there a while and get to know people, you can find cheaper rentals....still expensive but less so. I knew a few people that lived for free in an apt at a rich persons house who was never there. They basically were onsite caretakers. They did have to organize a bunch of catering, etc when the people came into town once or twice a year.

You can get bored in 5 feet of snow. And driving is stressful.

Don't go unless you both are actually into snow sports.
Your wife will go crazy.

I recommend Kia Sorrento.
Awd and the mountain/snow driving package. Snow tires.
I'm surrounded by Mts. Snow just melted 3 days ago.

Resume, interview.
Look before you leap.

Re Snow Tires

Get studded Nokians. They’re the best snow tire on the market.
