I’m up for a job in Aspen. It’s a great job in my field, however the pay is only 10k more than I make now. I’m not an ot baller, but I live comfortably here in BR. I read that even in Glenwood Springs it’s pretty pricy and that’s already an hour away.

I’d have to rent at first but I’m not sure I want to do more than $1,700 a month (in addition to the CoL) on my salary alone while the SO looks for something.

Also, as cool as it seems there, it really seems like it’s in the middle of nowhere and could get boring living there after a while.

I would think that the drive from Aspen to Glenwood springs would be tough in the winter at times.

Heres your problem:

Aspen has some cheap housing but that is reserved for people in service industry that make less than you

Good luck finding something for $1700 a month. Most stuff there is that much a week during the winter.

Do it. Drop the baggage first, though

The cost of living in Aspen compared to BR is 27% higher according to the random cost of living calculator I just used. I guess that gives you a basis?

Rent will be high in all the ski towns.

There’s never a lot of land available, and people always build high end homes that they can sell at a premium.

I don’t know Aspen, but I know Vale, Jackson, and Big Sky. Most people end up living far from work.

Nah man. There’s good earning potential in that baggage.

You will regret that move, most likely, unless you decide to drastically reduce the standard of living you currently have. That said, altitude and mountain views can't be bought in BR.
"The cost of living in Aspen is 57.3% more than the average cost of living in the United States. Aspen scores a 1 out of 10 in terms of cost of living. A cost of living score of 1 indicates most expensive while a 10 represents cheapest. Cost of living is calculated based on accumulating the cost of food, transportation, health services, rent, utilities, taxes, and miscellaneous. "

I should add, I love living it out here. You have to love the outdoors though. That’s all people do out here.

I would guess you'll have to pay out the arse for everything and constantly feel broke. But you won't have to live in baton rouge so theres that.

I lived there for 3 years. Try down around Basalt and find an old house. They have them you just have to look. The roads are fine they plow them constantly.

Spending in Glenwood Springs isn’t bad. Good grocery stores etc...Spending in Aspen is well, Aspen.

If you can do it as I wish I was still there. You won’t get bored in any season unless you can’t stand outdoors.

It will be cool for a couple of years but then it will begin to suck when the newness of it wears off.

El Jebel is a little closer and more affordable.
