Yes! I had forgotten about that place, but it was always a stop on a mall visit. Got a couple of ninja stars and a hunting knife there. Always had my eye on a Samurai sword, but never could convince my mom to buy it for me.

The guy whos (dad I think) owned it post here. I bought a brass Knuckle "paper weight" and some butterfly knives and throwing stars from there. I used to stop by and play with the knives until one day the owner told me people aren't allowed to play with them anymore and pointed to a big blood stain on the carpet.

Maison Blanche

No.

Original anchors. Maison Blanche was still at Bon Marche. Along with Montgomery Wards and D. H. Holmes. The original Goudchauxs became Maison Blanche and eventually Dillards.

But the original Dillards was over near the Piccadilly.

Toys By Roy was my favorite store as a kid.

Singing Christmas program there with school choir every year.

Date night meant Movies, Spaceport, Picadilly or Mama Bravas.

Mama Bravas.

Mama Bravas.

The movie theater was right next to the T-Shirt factory. Back when iron ons where still the thing. Back when you waited in line for a movie. Saw Return of the Jedi, Wildcats, and many others there. Was mad when it closed. I could go watch a movie while my mom shopped.

I remember watching movies at Bon Marche in high school. The theater lasted much longer than the mall.

Technically, it was Goudchaux's when Cortana opened (1975/76?) Goudchaux's was the first store open at Cortana, prior to the mall opening. There was still, of course, the mother ship at 1500 Main. The family later sold/merged (?) with Maison Blance out of New Orleans, and then sold to some national chain eventually.

While the Cortana location was great, 1500 Main St. will never be surpassed.

There use to be this burger place.. I want to say it was across from where Journey's was located. It was named Orange crush? Orange... something. Anyone remember this place? I think some Asian (not India or Middle eastern type people, but China type people) people ran it.

It was called The Orange Bowl. It served burgers and such and also served a frozen orange juice sherbet called OJoy. I got many of those on my way to Space Port.

Chelsea's Pub (nachos and daiquiris!) and the movie Heavy Metal at the theater, and Space Port! Good times!

Correct. Dillards or it's mother company eventually bought out the maison Blances.

And yes, I have never been to a store like 1500 Main. It was the most amazing place ever. I can still see/smell the candy/nut/cake/pastry counter right in the middle of the store. I drooled on that glass for hours at a time.

You're out of your mind if you think Gatti's, or Godfather's was better than Mama Brava's.

To each his own, and I really liked Godfather's pizza, but Mama Brava's was pretty much the only place in BR that you could get a slice of large, thin, foldable pizza in the New York style. And it had it all over that mass produced, national chain stuff.

Wow. We have met then for sure. I worked there then. I worked in the package pickup department.

Another guy on here did too. Pdub

I picked up some paint and was loading into a car. One can fell off on the ground and before I could get back to block it off, some guy drove through it getting all over his van. Luckily he was nice and it was latex and he was able to just hose it off.

Me and my best friend learned how to steal quarters out the fountains and raid Space Port.

6 pages and no mention of "Merry-Go-Round" huh?

Did y'all even Skiz bro? Girbauds or ZCavs.

I remember I went with a friend to get his baseball cap white lettered with "Can't touch this" on the side of it.
