One of the few places you could get your Dungeons and Dragons on back when it was underground.

I think some people are combining their memories of Cortana and Bon Marche malls. Cortana didn't open until 1980 and I don't remember there ever being a theater there. Bon Marche had a theater that was popular until Boyz in the Hood came out.
I worked in about 5 different stores in Cortana. That place was packed on Friday nights.

I was working at the mall the night Journeys caught on fire.
I still remember seeing the owner (long hair guy) haul arse into the mall as I was leaving.
Cortana Mall was a big part of my childhood. I don’t think there wasn’t a weekend my parents didn’t drag us to the mall for something in the late 80’s/early 90’s. Good times.

Story please?
I do remember a place named Bojangles, or something like where the owner killed either his wife or girlfriend.
I was working at mama brava when all of a sudden I saw a wall of people running and store gates closing. I honsestly don't remember hearing the shots.
Later that day I heard the story from one of our waitresses that was sitting next to them on her break at Chelsea's bar. The couple was arguing over something when the boyfriend pull out a pistol (357 I think) and shot at her a couple of times, hitting her in the chest once. If I remember correctly.

Cortana opened in 1976 and had a small theater for about a decade or so.

The Cortana Mall Cinema opened in July 1976 with “The Omen”, “Swashbuckler” and “Blazing Saddles” on its three screens. One large house with stereo capability and two smaller houses were featured. The theater was part of the newly built Cortana Mall and had a steady run of success until 1988, when its lease was not renewed.

Worked at that Capital Bank branch. Wal Mart would drop about 80K cash every night. Dude would pull up a chair and wait while someone counted it the next day. Always wondered why no one robbed those folks making the night deposits.

I was at the mall in the 80's with my mom, I was in elementary school, perhaps 2nd or 3rd grade which would have been around '83 or '83. We were standing in Merle Norman, near the JC Penny entrance and a crowd of people ran towards the Sears store and then the crowd ran back the other direction. We heard talk of a shooting, but I don't remember hearing shots. The store employees locked us in the store till everything was sorted out. Apparently there was a shooting outside of the Picadilly and for years you could see the bullet holes in the wooden beam outside of the Picadilly, close to that entrance.

Cortana had a theater, I think it was a twin. The Limited and Limited Express later took over the space where the theater was located.

I remember eating at piccadilly and each area was themed. My mom always seemed to sit in the nautical room. It had wallpaper of the sea and boats or some shite if I remember right. When I was a young kid I pressed the red emergency button on the escalators a couple times and embarrassed the hell outta mom. It was just so tempting as a kid. Lol. Looking at the bikini posters at Spencer's was like porn to a young kid, now Spencer's has a straight up sex shop in the back area. Sam Goody used to sell porn vcr tapes. So I guess my only memories were eating and seeking out porn. Lol

There was a small one there, it was removed during the renovation when they added on the Mervin's Department store

Hot Delta Airline stewardess at the grand opening ceremony’s at the Delta Airline booth. Probably dead by now or possibly not hot as she would be old.
Pizza place
Movie theater by Service Merchandise
Use to have a bar/ restaurant across from Piccadilly that was good.
Toys by Roys with collectible soldiers in the glass case next to puppets. It was a cool place for a small toy store.
Sizzler near Sears
Eveytime I came down to visit for the holidays it was packed people even parked in the fields around Cortana Mall. During the holidays the best time to shop was during an LSU Football game.

Cortana opened in 76 ,and it most definitely had a theater. 3 separate screens.
Saw Smokey and the Bandit there over 20 times the summer of 77.
Fyi
Bon Marche actually had 2 different theaters. The original twin screen in the back, it closed and they built the multi screen version up front behind Cowboys Bar. Cinema 11. It was BR's first venture into the megaplex experience.

Cortana had a theater over my Service Merchandise. It was a smaller one. I remembered after the mall stores closed we were in the sitting area in front if the theater waiting for a movie that started after 9pm.
Yeah, the mall opened in the late 70’s.
Bon Marche has two theaters the old one in the back and the newer one closer to Florida Blvd.

Wow, I hadn't thought about or heard the name "Toys By Roy" in decades.
What a time machine.
I bought many a plastic model hot rod from there when I was a little money-wasting kid. Revell, Monogram and AMC. The models found their way into the garbage a long time ago but I still have all the assembly sheets.
