Yesterday, South Korea held parliamentary election and it attracted the highest voter turn out in nearly 30 years, despite being held during the coronavirus pandemic:

Did we mess up by not doing shite during the golden time of February? CDC and Surgeon general lying about mask didn't help either. Data shows that non-mask wearing nations performed way poorly compared to mask wearing nations.

Probably but people wouldn’t have gone for it when they didn’t feel personally threatened (you even see that now, which is understandable given the unemployment numbers).

South Korea was doxxing their citizens who tested positive, the government shut down a person's debit and credit cards if it showed they were going to places in public.
The police had authority to incarcerate covid positive people and fine employers who had positive people working for them.

South Korea was also reading tens of thousands daily right from the jump, and forcing the positive cases into self isolation. That’s the real difference. They were prepared to test and we weren’t. Their government also has power to force their people to self isolate and whatnot that our government doesn’t.

PLus we as large majority have so many underlying conditions ( HTN/DM) that make us Americans highly susceptible to death.... unlike South korea which is much healthier

There are some in the US who are a couple steps away from this unfortunately.
Freedom and safety are a very delicate balance.

No Doubt...
The initial message that "Masks will not keep you from getting it" was always kind of a dumb response to me..
It may not "keep" you from getting it but it would absolutely reduce the risk of you getting it...
Makes me wonder if our media was somehow misrepresenting what was actually being communicated.
In other words, it like saying condoms will not keep you from having children... we know condoms are not 100% effective... but it will sure reduce the possibility of unwanted pregnancy...
Often, what is not being said is more important than what is being said...

Wouldn't have mattered one bit if they told everyone to wear them. None were to be had, unless the 4 pack I saw on Amazon priced at $125.00 counts.
It is no surprise that the CDC changed their tune once supply finally started catching up.

This was big. They did not respond well to MERS and learned from that.
From a WSJ article:
"The government approved its first test kit on Feb. 4, made by Seoul-based Kogene Biotech Co., when the country had reported just 16 cases. Distribution of test kits started three days later, said Baek Myo-ah, a Kogene executive director. Three other suppliers also soon won fast-track rights to start production after a 10-day review. That prepared South Korea for the worst when in the span of two weeks the case count exploded from 31 on Feb. 18 to nearly 5,000."
By March 16 they had tested 250,000 people and had pretty well isolated the active cases. It helped that a lot of cases were in a religious cult so it was largely a cluster rather than spread out all over the country. And South Korea was prepared to isolate and monitor people.
The utter failure of the CDC to develop a test in a timely manner is one of the main differences between us and SK.

SK - 207
But it wasn't just the US that had testing problems. The South Koreans were one of the few places that had their act together.
