Yeah. The stories about the people who contracted Ebola were about about as unsettling as it gets.

It is, but until it mutates and evolves enough to be spread by means other than how it is now.

Current belief is human to human transmission is by direct contact with mucus, vomit, feces, tears, breast milk, urine and semen. And you have to have it contact a mucus membrane or cut/open wound.

Only extremely sick people can transmit it via saliva (coughing/sneezing) and they are too sick to be out and about. Even then you still would have to be sneezed or coughed on or come in contact with the virus on a surface not long after deposited and again via mucus membrane or open wound.

For Ebola to become really dangerous, it will either have to slow its burn rate (how quickly it makes a person very ill/dead) and/or change its transmission method.

Now I will say, all these idiots eating bushmeat and continuing to bring it out of the jungles scares me, because the more times it comes out of those reservoirs and gets into the human population, the more likely it is to mutate into a form that can spread faster.

Common human coronaviruses, including types 229E, NL63, OC43, and HKU1, usually cause mild to moderate upper-respiratory tract illnesses, like the common cold. Most people get infected with these viruses at some point in their lives. These illnesses usually only last for a short amount of time. Symptoms may include

runny nose
headache
cough
sore throat
fever
a general feeling of being unwell

Human coronaviruses can sometimes cause lower-respiratory tract illnesses, such as pneumonia or bronchitis. This is more common in people with cardiopulmonary disease, people with weakened immune systems, infants, and older adults.

Every few years there’s a new virus that breaks onto the scene and it proceeds to mass panic, then it disappears
Well, it doesn't just disappear. A lot of work is done to contain it. Part of that is educating the general public on how to best avoid transmitting the virus.

Yeah, there is much written about this. AIDS, a slow burner is much more insidious.

Does it have to be all at the same time? Cause mucus freaks me out and I don’t go near it

This is not the common human coronavirus. You do realize there’s different strains of a virus? Mutations
